Just did some digging, and it's legit and from a 1994 book called "The Internet Guide for New Users" by Daniel P. Dern.

Interesting, I guess in 1994 it would make sense to redraw the guy instead of copying the asset over in Illustrator like you would present day.
Back then it was probably hand drawn. On paper.
