Why do people not realize? Apple doesnt have to be competitive. It just locks everyone inside their ecosystem and now those people will spend 2000$ on a folding slab every year instead of 1000$ on a slab that doesnt fold.

There’s not much left to “fix.” Which puts Apple in a tough spot: the iPhone Fold needs to do more than just finally get released.
this entire article pretends like consumers arent already immersed in their respective ecosystems.... like an apple household would just switch to android for foldability.. ha, no. just no.
the apple people will finally be able to buy an overpriced piece of hardware to match their android-centric friends. it will be very popular among its actual, target audience, apple users.
True. But sad.
You'll see when Apple literally invents the first folding phone. Hold tight.
Unserious dweebs like Daring Fireball are going to lose their FUCKING shit once Apple is brave enough to finally invent the world's first folding phone. Who but Apple could even conceive of this, let alone have the actual audacity to pull it off?
The twist: it folds — get this — hamburger style
?
I want a phone I can hold comfortably in one hand. I don’t need a larger screen, I need to remember to call the eye doctor.
No. I know. These phones aren’t for me. They’re for people who want to replace their laptop with a phone. The market is moving toward an all inclusive device, and the only way to make that work is dorky VR headsets, awkward projectors, or venti phones.

It's obviously going to be way overpriced but if the rumored screen specs of the iPhone Fold are accurate, it could be remarkably one-hand-able with a 5.5" cover screen. And the extra thickness when it's closed might make grip actually better than most phones today that are kinda annoyingly thin.
Sadly I would never switch to iPhone even though I would like a device like that theoretically.
You can get a feature phone, pretty much all of them are smaller than a modern smartphone.
Have they peaked? It seems like they still have issues with delicate screens, hinges that fail with dirt ingress, and so on..
I think there's still a lot to fix on foldables.
They could fix the big crease in the folding screen.
That's genuinely one thing I look forward to with Apple "inventing" things that already exist. They take it and refine it quite nicely.
And of course refine it in a way that forces you even more into the Apple ecosystem
Oh, naturally.
You're holding it wrong- that's the Magic Valley
less foldables more sidekick renascence
Yup. Screw thinness, I'd love to have one that's twice as thick as any modern phone, but with a two week battery life. You know, like we used to have.
Stick a 5G phone into a Psion Series V or Psion Revo and I'd buy them for the whole family.
I want a folding 13in iPad pro that unfolds to 26 inches.
It would be the first non android foldable, and thats enough for a lot of us.
Why would you even care at all? Not my company and not my business. Anyways what did everyone have for lunch today?
Certainly not me but people who in the apple walled garden for sure. You think people who use ios, macos, apple watch etc gonna use android foldable?
I expected Apple to do rollable smartphones as opposed to foldable, since that approach seems crude.

Perfected it by removing features?
