I remember almost nothing about it, save for a hazy memory of one scene. It's live-action, and I saw it no later than 2010 at most, likely no later than 2008. I'm guessing that it was released in the late '90s or early 2000s, possibly in the '80s even, but I can't be sure if that is the case. I probably saw it on a bootleg DVD that could have been of Chinese origin.

The scene involves two young men, wearing matching white shirts and trousers, standing beside a street in a suburb littered with grayish/white buildings, on a fairly well-lit overcast day, leaning in to stare at a small red gemstone on a white/silver plaque-like object mounted onto a brick wall. They chant something twice ("aass-yuuu-wuurr", "aass-uuuu-oorr" or similar, I can't recall), and then the gemstone starts to grow rapidly. As it increases in size, reflections on it can be made out, of shadowy floating heads in a red 'void' or similar. The gemstone grows large enough that the scene transitions fully to these heads, a sort of 'nested effect', as if they were inside the gemstone. My memory ends with the heads slowly approaching the camera.

I've asked numerous places about the identity of the 'video' with this scene. Selected suggestions include it being a music video of a director like Chris Cunningham, a music video related to a musician like Aphex Twin or Basement Jaxx, a scene somewhere in the Wishmaster trilogy, or even the Indiana Jones series. I've had no luck trying these suggestions. I've also looked through my inherited DVD collection, which includes Chinese bootleg DVDs. Names like Luc Besson, Wim Wenders, and Eric Rohmer have popped out to me, but after some discussion, I'm not sure if their filmographies have anything like the gemstone scene.

To help better visualise this scene, I've put together this recreation. It's rather rough on the edges, but all the basic elements are there. I have a reward for anyone who can help find this 'video'. Message me to learn more.

I think I saw that move back in the day, maybe Phoenix 1978.
