My friend said, "I believe in only two genders. Should I be cancelled?"

I was like, I think you mean sexes. But you know there are others like those that are born with both right?

"Yes but they're anomalies"

"But you know there are more than two sexes."

"Yes they're a minority, what's wrong with my statement?"

"..."

I kind of left it at that, it was like 3am and I needed sleep.

When your understanding doesn't account for verifiable phenomenon, your understanding is incomplete. Science progresses by accepting this truth and seeking to complete our understanding, but it is not how we are primed to think. We cling desperately to flawed understandings because letting go of them requires a ton of mental adjustment. They'd need to change so much of how they're wired to understand the social world, so unless they have the motivation, they simply won't do it.

"The Jews were a minority in 1945 Germany". Make them explain how it's different or be an open holocaust denier, win win.

Obviously minority lives don’t matter, that’s why I only believe in one race, white people.

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

There are only two races. Han and Bhil.

The existence of gender fluid implies the existence of gender gas, gender solid, and gender plasma.

And Gender Bose-Einstein Concentrate and, as I learned in this thread, Gender Metallic Hydrogen

That's still pretty basic biology tho. And gender is sociology anyway.

Advanced biology is stuff like plants having more complex genetics than humans.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Hah, plants... putting their sexes in vases. Bunch of weirdos.

Aren’t there like 20-something states of matter?

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 22 points 1 month ago

Matter is a social construct.

[–] De_Narm@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago

There's only liquid, solid and gas. Plasma, if you're daring. The others are mental illnesses!

Idk. Out of my head I only know 6.

I stopped counting after I learned about metallic hydrogen

[–] cows_are_underrated@feddit.org 3 points 1 month ago

What? That's wild.

[–] Ziglin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Well that's going to upset the astronomers calling everything but Hydrogen and Helium metals.

[–] femtek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 month ago

Ahh, learn something new every day!

[–] MossWitch@piefed.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 month ago

I wish everyone was as nonchalant about gender as not-my-genderinos guy.

[–] misteloct@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 month ago

To be fair, those same people also eschew advanced math, physics, and science of any kind.

I would say that a mathematician would rather write i²=-1 than sqrt(-1)=i
