Different but also: Mom stopping at Blockbuster on the way home from school on Friday

[–] protist@mander.xyz 19 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

This looks like late stage blockbuster, where they were trying to sell shit rather than rent. Blockbuster in its prime had rows and rows of a variety of movies rather than one wall of the most recent movies for sale

I was always more of a Hollywood Video man myself.

The Walk Around The Perimeter Wall Of Shame

[–] neuracnu@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

The perimeter was always the new releases for our store. That one shelf with the documentaries, workout videos and that one copy of Mind's Eye was where man dare not tread.

Same with both of the stores I worked at. New releases on the wall, and then shelves in the middle sorted by genre, and alphabetized

And yeah, the documentary shelf was always a section people skipped.

My failure even to find anything in new releases after covering the gamut was the shameful part.

Solid nostalgia

The large displays of not-movies came pretty late, though, didn't it? I remember a few stands by the counter up until the business started suffering a little as the 21st century came a creeping, and only then did they get prominent with the popcorn and candy.

Maybe that was just my store.

But did Blockbuster bust blocks or block busting? Perhaps we‘ll never know.
