The guilds should strike immediately if they're worth a damn

Yuuuuppp. Show actual solidarity by shutting down entertainment. Make the IATSE workers shut down live music and make Equity shut down Broadway.

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 38 points 3 months ago

Please. And Colbert too.

It doesn't matter if they have backup plans. It doesn't matter what the two of them decide to do 18 months from now. For now, this behavior from these media companies and our government needs to be stopped and reversed.

IA can shutdown lots of stuff...kiss stage good by...kiss live sports good-bye

[–] Alloi@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

IATSE could shut down virtually all film that isnt union based.

(im a member, and we've already been suggesting it to our local)

Theres a boycott going on right now against disney. Cancel your hulu, disney+, and espn and cite kimmle as your reason for canceling. Let them know doing this will hurt their wallet.

I hope this is a start of a trend.

I'm not American but isn't the SAG/AFTRA union pretty strong over there?

I don't know the exact specifics of this contract but generally you can avoid union firing rules by completely shutting the workplace down. They didn't just replace him, they killed the whole show.

[–] dylanmorgan@slrpnk.net 14 points 3 months ago

That might carry some weight, unlike JJ Abrams making the same statement.

yeah this is how you do it.

like I suppose it's possible for enough Disney customers to cancel this or that to put pressure on, but if like b Kevin Feige and all the Marvel people and all the Star Wars people and the others just refused to work - and I'm talking the rich ones not the hourly guys (not saying they can't join in) - I think it would put pressure on in a very effective way. Way more effective than some welder in Omaha canceling his Hulu+.

Yeah they can pretend any show doesn't make that much actual money, but when the majority of the people bringing in the customers stop producing anything they will have to acknowledge the reality. If they want all Administration thralls by all means let them produce all of these TV shows and movies. As if

They need to unionize if a large group of producers, directors, and actors act in unison this would have much more weight. Great stance though

I hope he finds himself.

What's up Brother!

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Does this matter? Hollywood produces mostly garbage and people will watch anything.
