He's out of a job so he needs to look slobby and disheveled!! News articles have always gotta choose a picture that fits the way they want to portray the person's response to the situation, even if it's actually from years ago. It's one of my favorite things to see because it's just so funny. 
As someone who got to this level of fame later in their career he's probably also been smart with his money and is now set for life freeing him up to act like a normal person.
