If reading is like eating, then watching a video is the tube feeding thing (the tube that they put through your nose).
Video is simply superior when my brain's at 50%.
If it's pure entertainment then sure. But when your brain is at 50% is when video is potentially the most harmful, you're less able to resist whatever narrative they might be pushing.
A lot of people struggle to read, and it's kind of sad. https://features.apmreports.org/sold-a-story/ was an interesting post about it (available as a podcast and transcripts).
That said, some people really just do wallow and the slop and that's an embarrassment.
YT hates people who know more than one language.
It is so annoying that it just translates everything. I hate auto translate. I hate that the video names and descriptions are affected too.
Is hilarious how bad is YouTube that you have to hack it (revanced) to use it, a great example on why a monopoly is bad.
I want to suggest to YouTubers that on a Peertube, you can say fuck, you can claim fair use when itβs fair use, you can talk about Israel and Gaza with the full words, you can play video games that show adult concepts, etc.
I donβt think people realize by now how much pressure on their thinking has come from the idea they might get demonetized. And youβll still have Patreon.
I've tried suggesting Peertube to a creator before, the rebuttal was that it'd be too much work/too hard to uproot and move everything over.
Youtube has its problems, its also a modern miracle. Seriously the fact that it exists at all is insane. Youtube is the post 2000 public library for wanting to learn about damn near anything.
Someone who knows about this sort of thing should change this meme into the guy in the first panel just saying this meme.
