Merging the PR and merging into traffic!

This seems dangerous for both the codebase and the cars around them.

Crashing and then crashing

[–] ArseAssassin@sopuli.xyz 22 points 1 week ago

How to crash your software and hardware at once.

[–] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

In case of crash git revert or git reset --hard idbeforecrash

When the cost of living is so egregiously high that not only do you need two jobs, but you have to do them at the same time

[–] ViatorOmnium@piefed.social 32 points 1 week ago (1 children)

A software engineer needs two jobs. Which means most people need at least 4. Or 3 if they live under a bridge.

[–] Gladaed@feddit.org 7 points 1 week ago (3 children)

A software engineer does not need two jobs. That's ridiculous.

[–] Sauerkraut@discuss.tchncs.de 14 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

It sounds ridiculous, yes, but there are US software engineers who basically work for minimum wage full time doing freelance work because that is all they can find

I mean if you read the article, one of them saved for a year or 2 and bought a house (I’m assuming large down payment for a mortgage), one had a “house payment and alimony” (so basically paying half the salary to the ex), one was saving up 90% of income doing this.

These are people who were either striving for FIRE or had other shit happen to them.

Obviously the area is ridiculously expensive, but software engineers make more than enough to live on a single job. If they still have jobs of course.

Half-assing two jobs at once

[–] LGTM@discuss.tchncs.de 71 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Do NOT let me do this, I will actually be rage-merging on the road. "LFGTM 😡" bypass branch protection rules

Yo Dawg, I heard you like merging. ..

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 32 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ok, obviously merging while you merge is super dangerous. Almost as dangerous as using light mode on your phone. The rider should've known he was a sociopath just from that.

[–] BJ_and_the_bear@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hey, I prefer light mode. There are dozens of us!

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Nothing in life really prepares you for meeting such an unfathomable being...

It's worth mentioning that this guy and the "Uber driver" works in the same company

probably the only time they can actually successfully merge

I’m not sure if that is impressive or terrifying.

[–] zeograd@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

¿Por qué no los dos?

[–] jadelord@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 1 week ago

Somebody tell that dude that having a "bus factor" doesn't mean you should actively seek getting run over by a bus!

[–] TheLeadenSea@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This is the sort of engineer getting wholly replaced by Copilot

[–] TuffNutzes@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

He's checking in code for FSD.

[–] outerspace@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This is a concept known as CAC (configuration as code) - the driver made changes to the route, making the change visible, reversible, safe, auditable and testable. It's also great for the PRs merged per day metric!
