Man I feel so whiplashed by Newsom

I think he’s starting to wake up to a few things about his own corruption and the rot in the system….at least I hope so..

He’s not…

I hope to fuck you don't seriously think we are seeing a serious change of heart. Psychopaths don't work that way.

Newsom is making a run at the presidency, and he is marginally more aware of the landscape than the average establishment hack. It was barely a month ago he was doing the right wing grift circuit, and now he is trying to grift the left. We should milk whatever real gains we can get out of it, then dump him. Hope isn't a thing here.

I get what you’re saying and agree but what choice do we have? Nobody is organizing, nobody is coming to save us, democracy is falling, the us is quickly becoming an authoritarian police state. Thiel , Vance and the heritage foundation are going to be locking us into tyranny for the foreseeable future…so I understand how neoliberals got us here and I understand about Gavin being corrupt but seriously tell me what choice we have? I don’t see a lot of options do you? I don’t see protests or general strikes like in Europe. We have the Gestapo snatching people. This administration has said several times they are going to be jailing liberals as terrorists…when have they ever bluffed? You can literally watch a documentary about the Weimar Republic and see were there. We’re literally going quietly into the dark night.

All that is true, and yet the establishment Democrats in power are still playing games, refusing to endorse Mamdani, and parading around "abundance liberalism" like it's not the same old song and dance. Electing another establishment Democrat in 3 years isn't going to save us.

Right now, the concern is the midterms which may just still happen. A Democratic majority in both chambers actually will hinder this administration.

As for the Presidency, we have no idea who will be running. I'm not going to help the establishment build an early consensus for another sub-par candidate.

As for the threat to jail liberals, that's a check the administration can't cash - not at scale. They don't have the prisons, the guards, the cops, or the balls. So far, it doesn't even look like they will get Kimmel off the air. Their grand military parade turned into a display of malicious compliance, and their military deployments to US cities have not provided them what they were looking for. Only the ICE brown-shirts have displayed a real willingness to back the administration's agenda. I'm not saying there is no danger, but it's not as hopeless as you say.

You want ice to have the right to unionize?

[–] turdburglar@piefed.social 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

sure. imo every worker should have that right.

but i meant gavin fixed the lyft/uber unionization problem, now he should fix the ice problem. make mask wearing while on duty as LEO a felony and send state troopers to follow them around to enforce it.

This is part of a larger deal between lawmakers, unions, and ride-hailing companies, resulting in the passage of separate bills supporting lower insurance requirements for Uber and Lyft,

That doesn't seem like a good thing
