Family and neighbors have told media outlets Maria had a restraining order against him because he allegedly had been harassing her. Her uncle posted a statement on Facebook that the driver had allegedly followed his niece to her home for months and the police were notified, but nothing was done.

Other articles have indicated that he later live-streamed a statement about the murders on his gaming stream with tens of thousands of followers. He reportedly made comments about one of the girls on his livestream, targeting her for making disrespectful comments about Charlie Kirk.

The alleged killer is the son of a police officer and related to a local police chief, which some have claimed contributed to the lack of police action against his months long stalking.

The alleged killer is the son of a police officer and related to a local police chief, which some have claimed contributed to the lack of police action against his months long stalking.

One of the victims had a restraining order against the alleged killer. Nothing was still done. I hope a jury of his peers finds him guilty, locks him up, and throws away the key.

[–] PeacefulForest@lemmy.world 57 points 2 days ago

Nothing was done because he was related to a police officer. I’m sure they thought the restraining order was an overreaction and “he’s such a nice boy”. Giving condolences is far too little, too late.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Probably should put the officer on paid leave until an investigation is completed. Preferably by an outside company, but that would never happen.

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The officer is in a different town and isn’t closely related. Some NJ families of Italian ancestry have hundreds of members in the area and aren’t close with most of them.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That's all good information that would have come up, the fact that he is NOT his son would wrap up most of the conflict of interests pretty quick.

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It would come up in an investigation but IDK that many here would know what these families are like. I grew up not far from here and know lots of families like this where their 4th cousin lives three towns over but the families aren’t close.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

The way I read it his dad was a cop, and his distant family member was the police chief who we are saying wouldn't have anything to do with not following up on the reporting. Maybe the body of text under the article got me confused. Any way about it, they should verify the report was followed up on through the standard process and make sure no officers of any relation were tied to altering that process.

Side note, I have one of those 10+ letter Sicilian last names with parents from the state of NY (not city), so I get what you mean when you say our families aren't necessarily always close.

[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago

Shit, I don't see my first cousins but about once a decade. 4th cousin is nothing to me. I couldn't even possibly trace my family that far sideways.

Headlines in the USA if our country wasn't a giant pansy, conservative ass-kissing mass of pro-sociopathic servants to hate and fascism:

"INTERNET-POISONED INCEL PIECE OF SHIT MURDERS THE FIRST TWO WOMEN OF HIS MISERABLE LIFE - PARENTS AND HOME LIFE NOT BEING INVESTIGATED BECAUSE IT WOULD REVEAL TOO MUCH ABOUT OUR SOCIETY AND POLITICS AND POLICE BROADLY"

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 93 points 2 days ago (1 children)

ACAB that once again got innocent people killed.

I couldn't finish reading the article, the kids sounds like a complete psychopath.

No child deserves life in prison, but that is not someone you want walking the streets.

He is being tried as an adult and faces 30 years for this.

I guess we’re reverting to a more MAGA centric norm of “boys will be boys” when they stalk girls. No need for the police to do anything.

I’m not suggesting things were perfect, but we have fully left the me too era for one in which Jordan Petersons theory that women are “wired” to be more subject to men, because history, and damn the actual choice women had on the matter throughout that history. As such, there will be more complacency in these matters going for(back)ward.

It's the same as it always has been. In counties and cities run by corrupt, extremely religious people - people don't get prosecuted for things if they're allied with the town church, police, or politicians. This has been going on non-stop since before 1776.

It's how religions work. If you're one of them, you're golden and untouchable. If you're not, they're going to make your life as shitty as possible. That's what religious people do in reality, actual reality. Every day.

That's how "red" states work.

Off topic

If I were the Dems, my platform would be to create 10 million pick and shovel jobs.

Besides the roads and bridges, we could rebuild the power grid.

Get the man babies out of the basements and give them real jobs.

And yes, I'm sure that there are a lot of women who'd love to drive dump trucks and run power lines.

edit =This getting anonymous downvotes is the funniest thing I can think of.

No actual arguments as to why it's a terrible idea, just loathing of the idea of picking up a shovel.

Bidens infrastructure bill. Democrats do a thing. Nobody notices. People wonder why Democrats don't do a thing.

[–] DreamAccountant@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

Not only "not noticed", the republicans just took credit for it. Complete lies, but they said it was theirs. That's how propaganda works, and one side only uses propaganda. Because we let them broadcast it non-stop.

[–] pahlimur@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

I had a Nanny who was shocked to learn she missed out on extra pay because of Republicans killing that part of a prior tax bill. She voted for donald every time she could. She was shocked to learn about dems infrastructure bills. I felt like I was informing an idiot what the world looked like. Republican voters are completely misinformed about reality, no degree of "they should do this" will fix the voters being misinformed.

On a personal note. I let her life fall apart after donald won. She was struggling financially and I could've helped her, but I didn't. She should've pulled harder on her bootstraps.

That's hilarious that you think basement dwelling incels are going to be any use whatsoever in a physical labor job.

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Funny thing. When I made the edit I was at negative 8 votes. Now I'm up to positive 3.

I didn't think there'd be a lot of controversy.

And yes, I think there are many of them who would rise if they were presented with the right challenge. No all, but some

[–] etherphon@midwest.social 1 points 1 day ago

It has not been my experience, but I suppose if there was some purpose.

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 1 points 2 days ago

Biden did that bill. Already an option, but there’s a profound concept with people you need to understand. You cannot make people do what they do not want to do.

[–] DreamAccountant@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago (8 children)

Why? Religion. He was a religious terrorist, just like the religious preacher terrorist, Kirk, taught him to be. He acted out in religious retaliation against someone who said that they don't like religious terrorists. So he killed them violently.

That's how religions work. For every 10, there's 1 violent extremist willing to die for their fictional god. For a good reason? No. They're just religious terrorists, spreading terror in the name of their religion.

Stay away from religious people! Even speaking around them was enough to get two girls murdered by a religious terrorist. Even if they seem OK, they suddely turn. STAY AWAY FROM RELIGIOUS PEOPLE. They're nuts.

[–] fodor@lemmy.zip 13 points 2 days ago

Also, because he's a cop's kid.

[–] Washedupcynic@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm sorry, but where in the article does it mention that the alleged killer did this because religion, and where in the article does it mention he had affiliation with Charlie Kirk?

All we have is this:

In the YouTube livestream, Battiloro said he's been bullied and ridiculed over false allegations and called for more to done to address mental health in New Jersey, including requesting that the state's Republican gubernatorial candidate, Jack Ciattarelli, focus on that issue.

That one sentence points to him possibly supporting republicans, it says nothing about religion. Fuck Charlie Kirk and fuck the current republican administration, but that one sentence does not a terrorist make. It's more likely that this kid was but hurt because these girls did not want to be associated with him, colloquially or romantically.

[–] Batmancer@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago

I agree it’s more likely about the murderer being rejected in some way by the victims. If anything other than that though I’d say it would be ideology and not religion, because the murdering shit for brains framed it as response to Charlie Kirk comments.

[–] dogslayeggs@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

What in the world are you talking about? This had nothing whatsoever to do with religion.

[–] lemmy_outta_here@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Naw man. I agree with you up to a point, but not all religions are the same. I don't see any Baha'i terrorists out there. Not even all Christian denominations are the same. The whackadoos are attracted to some religions more than others, and some religions foster crazy shit more than others.

That being said, I don't want anything to do with American Evangelical Christianity. From what I've seen, that shit is right up there with the worst of nutjob religions.
