"Everybody out there that's watching, everybody that's watching this world? This world is bullshit. You shouldn’t model your life about what you think that we think is cool and what we’re wearing and what we’re saying and everything." - Fiona Apple.

They haven't had real dialog about real issues in 10 years. Time flies doesn't it. It was dead the moment they entered the Trump era. This idiotic fascism era.
I don't see how they're bringing 1/3rd to 2/3rds the population back to reality. It was over when that half the country reneged on the social contract.
That's what shattered the illusion of Christianity for me as a younger person. Horrible individuals hiding behind an institutional veil of morals.
The past ten years have been even more illuminating. As all of these sorts of issues have been brought to the forefront. One of the common themes I've noticed is that the Venn diagram of these types of Christians / conservatives is the overlap is nearly a perfect circle with abusers.
I had a feeling he exploits the 9/11 thing for sympathy.
Same with randomly getting accused of being a pedo in public. This is not a thing that's happened nor have a ever been afraid of. Are all those guys projecting something. Must be.
People were saying to anyone who would listen that Guantanamo was going to lead exactly where we are today. The sane washing as we call it now goes back so far.
Didn't they already get something like a trillion dollar tax break in the first term? Once again the language used stuck on brinksmanship. The bad things are going to happen but never do. Until they do happen. The language never changes. It's the goal posts that move. The bad things that happened are memory holed. The next set of bad things are on the brink of happenning.
I'm pretty sure this is the primary mechanism that has enabled the slide into fascism. The population is reactive. Not proactive. If the perception is that something will happen, not has happened then you successfully subdued resistance all together. There's nothing to resist if perceptually nothing ever happens. We will never actually eat the rich.
I wish we'd moderate trolls again on our internet.
Bart Simpson is making Gen-X and Millennials lazy. They will never amount to anything.
To be fair the regime has been pretty brutal. The protests this summer in the big cities was met with military force.
It's not good signs as you say. The authoritarian regime is in full swing.
I bet the bullet hit his spine. Hence the immediately floppy dead. As opposed to being due to the blood loss.
To play the devils advocate. Someone some where every day has been calling for a massive crash since the last massive crash. Their thesis is based whatever current events are at the time.
That aside. I think the so called AI bubble is distracting from something worse. The west has not been inventing or producing anything in a long time. The prevailing zeitgeist had shifted to a greater-fool pyramid-scheme type mindset. It happened a long time ago. Long before AI.
Everyone believes they're smart for thinking they can park their money in the right investments and live passively off others doing the hard work. Nobody wants to work anymore.
Sorry (not sorry) if that last sentence makes Lemmy users irate like it does on other social media. I don't know if it does or doesn't. But I think it's true.
It's not just billionaires scooping up all the wealth. People have been fighting each other for the scraps too.
If the so called AI bubble bursts. I think a bigger domino falls. The one where everyone has to face a sobering reality. They all thought they were smarter than each other by trying to get rich off the other person doing all the work. Which has led us to a point where nobody has been doing anything. Not inventing new things. Not producing good product. Not manufacturing anything. Doing nothing but watching imaginary lines go up. This is not just AI but the whole of society has come to be built on this mindset.
Everything has been hyper-capitalized. The kid with a lemonade stand has been trying to figuring out how he can minmax his investment by giving you a tiniest pinch of lemonade powder per cup of water. It's crazy times. Not just the AI industry.
