The study and a couple of its main points:

  • Billions in pledged finance has not made it to the ground level of Africa’s Great Green Wall.

  • Only two of 36 assessed reforestation plots demonstrate significant greening since planting.

The likely reason, they say, is that many seedlings are dying off when rainfall is meager, or they are being trampled or eaten by cattle in areas without fencing.

No matter where in the world you look, the drivers of deforestation and hindrances to reforestation are the same pretty much everywhere...
