I always thought he was a dumb media whore, but it turns out that he's stupid for free.

~This post is not meant to disparage sex workers, who actually take care of their community~

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 57 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Never bothered to listen to him, but a local stand up comedian has probably watched every podcast episode of his, and discussed it quite a bit on his own podcast: Nobody should listen to Rogan. He's an entertainer and that's it. He'll allow anyone on his podcast regardless of beliefs and he tends to either believe or pretend to believe them when they spew conspiracy theories and other bullshit. His political opinions depend on who's been on his show and that's it. Most guests have been right-wing grifters for a long time now, so that's what he believes.

And that's from a FAN of Joe Rogan.

Yeah Joe, you and 100 million other idiots.

Actually no, this is deliberate mass ignorance. The GOP has openly advocated hunting minorities for a while now, and used the word criminal like an insult, not a statement of fact.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Some people, probably most, are that ignorant. My wife is a legal, brown immigrant, fighting for her 10-year visa, which should be a rubber stamp by now.

She had no clue. "They're only taking criminals." Hell, the immigration office told her not to worry about what she's seeing on the news. And low-level government workers like that aren't exactly parroting MAGA talking points. They just want to do their fucking job and go home.

And it's true! The odds of ICE snatching her are slim, especially since I haven't seen any around here and there's no ICE office in the region. The odds are slim for everyone, but they're ramping up fast and I've got a solid education in 20th century history. I know what's coming.

Took me some time to make her realize this is a real threat to her. I don't want to scare the shit out of the woman, but I'm nowhere outside the house, especially with her, unarmed.

My man, over half of Americans read at best on a 6th-grade level. How informed do you expect them to be?

One other thing, you're right, most undocumented aliens are in violation of civil law, not criminal. Read up on it a bit, IANAL, but you generally have to be purposefully fucking up for your border crossing to be a criminal offense.

I just don't understand how so many people can say with a plain face "I just didn't think he would do again exactly what he did the first time he was president."

[–] SaraTonin@lemmy.world 30 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I mean, I do believe that Joe Rogan is both ignorant and stupid, so…

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Lot's of YouTubers play stupid, so that they get better engagement with their public, like saying some wrong things like it was a mishap gives you comments, being a bit dumbish makes people think they can outsmart you etc etc. it's a monetary strategy. IMO.

I call it this as "The Voter's Wager", essentially they believe less bad things will happen than promised, and more good things, because people are too confident in the "politicians just say things sometimes they don't mean".

If that were true, and I don't believe it is, then you are a moron.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 28 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The last bit is definitely true.

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 56 points 1 week ago

Rogan is a fucking tooool who enabled Trump 1 & 2.

[–] manxu@piefed.social 52 points 1 week ago (2 children)

He's just mirroring what his user base is thinking. We might be giving him too much credit with changing people's minds: he just says what his listeners want to hear.

In 2024, it was all about how Trump was going to restore American men to greatness and power against the encroaching evil of criminal immigrants, feminists, and trans drag queens (???)

Now the same American men have realized that's a bad look and he's just providing the excuse for why it was okay to support this stuff.

He tells it like it is

That's from 2016 btw

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 28 points 1 week ago (4 children)

he just says what his listeners want to hear.

This has literally always been his schtick. He also constantly agrees with everything his guest say even when they completely contradict each other.

He's got no actual opinions on anything and never has.

Joe, you have a large platform, and Fuck You money, and can say or do anything that you choose. You could turn your entire listening base back to the light if you felt like it.

Nice of you to finally acknowledge reality, but you've got a lot more heavy lifting to do. You're not the enemy of my enemy just yet.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 23 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Not quite.

Unidentified masked armed thugs snatching people off the street without due process and shipping them off to gulag (sometimes in a completely unrelated country) is wrong even if the people are criminals.

Criminals also have rights worth protecting.

"But, but, you see, once authoritarianism starts creeping in, and it makes some inroads, which it's definitely making right now man."

The irony of Duncan Trussel saying this while wearing a Palantir hat feels like a top tier psyop. I'm not even conspiratorial but there is no conceivable world where you could be that dense.

Bro really is that dumb, huh?

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 41 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Why is anyone still listening to this moron?

[–] EndOfLine@lemmy.world 58 points 1 week ago

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

Cue the very next episode where Joe will be spending 300x as much time berating the left because he saw a leftist do something stupid in an AI video with PS2 graphics.

Ignorance of the law isn't a defense, ignorance of obvious reality shouldn't be either. He's complicit and he knows it.

[–] carlossurf@lemmy.ca 36 points 1 week ago

Joe meant to say hes a dipshit who got conned twice by the same conman lol

[–] DeathsEmbrace@lemmy.world 35 points 1 week ago

Thats what you get for being a stupid POS joe.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 25 points 1 week ago

The thing they were doing under Biden?

When a republican says "criminals" they mean "brown people who aren't filthy rich". Which, just to be clear, does not include drug cartels or any other people typically included by the word "criminal".

Fuck Joe Rogan's dumb ass and his willingness to take every republican propaganda statement at face value.

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 24 points 1 week ago (3 children)

In March was when we started seeing news of tourists, grandmas, ice cream men, and small business owners getting thrown into ICE Internment camps. In May, we started seeing kids being rounded up.

And only now is he going, "Hey this is weird?" I can't believe I used to listen to this dude.

For anyone not following things like elephant graveyard on YouTube, this shit is a face saving attempt for them.

Both him and Duncan Trussel are getting hammered by parts of their audiences for not only full throated support of Trump, but actually using their platforms to boost the shit. Same with Theo Von and a few of these other fucking clowns.

Duncan Trussel is famously the person in a space suit telling Rogan people are going to manipulate and use him. This shit is clownshoes.

Poor, poor, Joe Rogan. Reality has eluded him.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago (6 children)

Not that we didn’t know this already, but anybody that says this kind of shit immediately loses all credibility. It was 100% obviously bullshit when they said it. Just like getting Mexico to pay for the wall. Or Trump having a healthcare plan. It was all 100% bullshit.

How did so many people get fooled by him when he'd already been president and was just like this for four years‽
