Miniest is on school camp and I've never been separated from her overnight before. I feel a bit lost tbh so I'm stretching and folding sourdough bread dough to keep me occupied. It'll be good for her to have this time to develop as a person, but I miss her so much. She's one of these little people that seem to fill up life. 🍞🍞🍞

I had to stake down the strays paper plates with wooden skewers because of the wind.

Felt like McGyver lol

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 6 points 5 days ago

Is it too late to tart part in operation UNKAOS? I just bought a new vacuum and it's actually working vs my old one which struggled with... everything.

*Take not tart πŸ˜”

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Don’t we all…

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 5 days ago

[–] SituationCake@aussie.zone 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Based on your reviews, I bet there’ll be some interesting finds for op shop book lovers!

When pushing hard means winning, peace and quiet feel like losing. It’s been on my mind lately.

Goodnight all ❀️

Have you read Sun Tzu? Yep, the Art of War bloke from yonks ago China. Very good at making a clear distinction between what constituted winning and losing. And the distinction is often not what you think.

[–] SituationCake@aussie.zone 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Interesting. I’ve always felt the opposite. Peace and quiet is winning. Constantly fighting means loosing.

this is true

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 8 points 5 days ago

I just saw a bird flying sideways. This could be the basis for a new wind strength scale..

[–] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Picked up the laybuy for the kids' birthdays and christmas today. On the way out I went through the self serve and the camera picked up the laybuy in my trolley. So it's good to know that tracking stuff is in use already, if I kept my trolley out of view it wouldn't have seen the stuff still in there.

I had some fermentation flies take up residence in my compost bucket and kitchen, so I made a trap for them which has worked very well. I have a jar of drowned flies and haven't seen any flying around the kitchen today. The trap is a funnel on top of a glass jar, and the bait is vinegar, sugar and yeast mixed with water.

I think you’ve just solved the mystery of what flies are in my house! Always thought they were thrips, although they didn’t exactly match. I’ve found a glass with vinegar and a few drops of dishwashing liquid to work pretty well as a trap, too

goodnight everyone, sweet dreams

Waiting for the crazy weather - I’m getting more wind now but the sun’s out, it’s not too bad outside.

I blame the weather for how ratty this office is today.

Though I've also noticed that I'm also reporting how ratty the office is, so maybe it's just a ratty office. I'm the self appointed cheerleader though.

[–] Catfish@aussie.zone 7 points 5 days ago

So far it has been slightly moist. Might do some laundry.

So windy today an orchid plant was blown out of it's pot!

I saw a pelican fly backward and then give up, turning around and then landing.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 6 points 5 days ago

Happy Wombat Day everyone.

[–] Alamutjones@aussie.zone 7 points 5 days ago

Mmmmm, fruit toast

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 4 points 5 days ago

The break room at work smells strongly of garlic, so now I'm craving garlic bread.

[–] LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

It was so windy! Great day to be in the city :)

[–] SituationCake@aussie.zone 3 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Was windy but I was expecting worse based on the warnings. That’s good I guess, not too much damage.

[–] Catfish@aussie.zone 8 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Nobody gives me HDs anymore, Wah! No I'm not insomniac and reading old papers for endorphins or some such shite. It didn't work, but revisiting dot matrix fonts is enlightening

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I heard a rumble of thunder.

[–] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Must’ve been that bean I ate…

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 5 points 5 days ago

Nothing like a good fart in the morning.

Why are the new Myki readers so awful? I'd argue them to be worse than even the first-generation readers with a bad read.

The entire device basically gets locked out on a bad read for about a minute. If your Myki doesn't read properly, or your phone is acting up, a few retries could lock out a big chunk of the station gates.

[–] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

The whole myki contract from the first machines has been a clusterfuck awarded to the lowest bidder.

I worked for a place ages ago that had put in a bid for a decent system but the government wanted to save cash.

[–] T156@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

To think we could have almost had the Octopus system Hong Kong uses.

[–] rock@aussie.zone 5 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Yeah, it is slowing me down massively each time. I use a card through google wallet and it used to be so smooth. I am hoping when they enable credit cards I can just let it use my main card and leave it at that.

Well there goes my trip into the city.

Borderlands 2 and music it is!

Edit: gym done. Shopping done. Let the nap with rain sounds begin.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 5 days ago

the rain is lovely

Trying to sort computer shit out quick and dirty just to get unstuck.

spoilerWindows 11 machine is completely full so using a Mac to download the classic Linux Mint and waiting a hundred years for the iso to download so I can sha the damn thing and make a bootable usb drive. The old desktop has been backed up a few weeks ago.

Tried to drag a bunch of files onto a 32gb usb off Windows machine to free space and keep them safe but there’s seriously not enough room for all of it so I might get an external drive just for that to have on top of backups. Otherwise if I can get the desktop sorted soon I can just ferry the most important stuff over.

Then I have to download everything off Flickr and Dropbox and make sure the last gmails get changed over on any platforms they’re still connected to (or emails they’re recoveries for).

Today is going to be very busy so that may have to wait

Yay the string of numbers matches one of the approved ones :)

Apparently I’m ok to skip the authentication of the .txt file so I’m using balenaEtcher to flash the iso and hopefully all goes well.

[–] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 5 points 5 days ago (5 children)

Yay. Welcome (back?) to the Tux team! I realised how many old photos I still have stored on Facebook the other day. I think un-cloud-ifying is going to be one of my long term projects too. So I look forward to hearing how you go.
