Maybe it's too early to say, but, y'all, this fucking slaps. I'm really enjoying playing as a heretofore unknown dynasty in China, trying to get up the ranks, get assigned territory to govern and build up my family. Just tried a bit last night, so unsure what Japanese or Mandala governments are like, or even what being closer to the Emperor in the Celestial government is like, but it's a big departure from playing in Europe and that's very interesting.

MODERATORS
Oh yeah. I messed around in Japan last night and it really shines in the diplo. Went an adventurer to just get a tour, and its also understated all the minor balancing, ui tweaks, and added mechanics! It could really do with more flavor text-Chinese exams got crazy repetitive after a couple goes, despite the bureaucracy having emphasis on said exam. Other than that, it feels way more finished than some of their early stuff. Can't wait to try out the steps forreal, now that they're done.
