Rules

AI Art: While we appreciate AI generated art, there are more appropriate communities to post that type of art to. Please keep posts to non-AI generated art only. This rule includes AI art that was then manually manipulated (e.g. drawing on top of something generated by AI).

NSFW Policy: Nudity and suggestive content has always been a part of art, but it may be something that some users don't wish to see or cannot view in certain circumstances (e.g. at work). If your work contains nudity or suggestive content, please mark it as NSFW. Work that contains nudity or suggestive content that is not marked as NSFW will be taken down. As long as the NSFW tag is used, we welcome nude or suggestive subject matter. If you aren't sure if your work is NSFW or not, just ask yourself, "Could I look at this at a typical office job and not get into trouble?" If you're still not sure after that, you should probably mark it as NSFW just to be on the safe side.

Spam: Please do not spam this community. Self promotion is fine if you just want people to be aware of your work, but blatant attempts at spam will result in the past being removed and possibly a ban. If you aren't sure if what you are posting is spam, please contact the moderator first.

Conduct: Be nice, and don't be a jerk. Constructive criticism is OK, but don't be mean. Encouragement is always welcomed.

There is a YouTuber who makes amazing watercolor buildings and cities. His line work is incredible and he inspired me to give structures a try. This is my first attempt. My mom LOVES lighthouses, so that's why I started with this.

Yes.

Since I've switched to the watercolor style I've gotten that question a lot. Do you think I should include it somewhere? I don't want to mislead people.

I think it's the title.

I personally would write "digital watercolour" or "digital" instead of "watercolour" by itself. Seems more appropriate.

Keep it up, it's even prettier on the second look.

Also, in a perfect world is the physical watercolor stuff something you would want to try out if you haven't already? Even without being an artist I can imagine the cost, time, space, mobility, etc. considerations.

In my highschool years many moons ago. I mostly paint next to my wife on the couch while watching something she's more interested in. So traditional paints aren't great for that. Plus I'm working towards something that requires digital chops so I'll stay focused here for a bit.

This is beautiful. Maybe I should involve myself to do some watercolor painting as I recently introduced my son to them like a week ago. Doubt I can do anything like this but it is inspiring!!

You totally should! They won't start like this but neither did mine. And a fun activity with your son. My mom and some friends and I go out to paint in nature at least monthly and it's a delight.

They look so good, I wouldn't have thought they were digital. My tinkering in digital has been less than what I hope for. Probably need to practice more.

Thank you! And this tool set is pretty great for it.

[–] kendg@lemmy.cafe 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I use Sketchbook on Android phone, and Krita on my Windows PC.

[–] BallShapedMan@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I used to use Sketchbook, I migrated to Infinite Painter and I'm happy I did. A more mature tool that's more versatile. But was overwhelming for a bit at first.

[–] brbposting@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The super expensive Apple Pencil is pretty neat with its pressure sensitivity, your tooling feature something similar?

[–] BallShapedMan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah, it's the Samsung Ultra tablet with the fancy pen. My phone has one too but I don't use it nearly as much now that I have the tablet. The brushes in Infinite Painter are pretty great, I've only made a few slight modifications to the default brushes which is pretty rare. The last app (Sketchbook by Autodesk) I had to pretty much make my own brushes to get what I wanted and download a ton more.

Ooh good stuff

Gotta test that pen on the tablet next time I’m at Best Buy (hopefully they figured out a way to chain one down)

[–] BallShapedMan@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Lol yeah the Best Buy here had no pen at all anywhere. It's not as good as a top of the line Wacom but better than a basic Wacom. Maybe that'll be a baseline you might have? I've never used an apple pen so no idea there.
