like daddit for the fediverse but we all eat pizza with ranch and say "ope" a lot. all dads and non-dads are welcome. ranch on pizza is recommended but not required. ope is mandatory.

Stayed at an AirBnB a while back, they had the digital thermostat locked in at 62 degrees, it was winter in a beach town.

I google the stat, found the maintenance code and moved the max up to 72 for our stay :)

Was about as effective as this label :)

If the event that doesn’t work, buy a can of compressed air and turn it upside down.

Spray the thermostat.

The air that comes out is very cold and will fool the t-stat into turning on.

Conversely, if it’s took hot, microwave some wet paper towels and put them underneath.

I think I would probably try ice cubes in a Ziploc baggy, taped to the thermostat. It should last a hell of a long time.

Of course, the problem there is regulation. You just need the heater to come on a few extra minutes an hour.

I've used that warning label at work.

"'Do not' what?" "Do not anything."

Do not, do yes... Everybody wants me to do something! I don't want!

Don't ever, for any reason, do anything to anyone for any reason ever—no matter what, no matter where, or who, or who you are with, or where you are going, or where you've been—ever, for any reason whatsoever…

Did you travel back in time to 1982 and vacation at my parent’s house?

I haven’t seen that thermostat in decades.

Yes, they weren't home though. There is no one in the past anymore.

That's the one I grew up with! Those things are so stupid simple they just about can't break.

I had one these bad boys in my first house I bought, built in 1940's. Replaced it, regretted it because than you have to mess with batteries (no electrical wire - just signal). Also felt like the old one was just more accurate. But you can't program them.

Careful lot of them contain mercury. Think even more modern ones do before digital.

So, don’t. Just put a hot cup of coffee under the thermostat, or an ice cold beverage above it.
