I wouldn't mind, while people have been crapping on it i found it good and compared to some of the recent slop i better than good.

I mean there is plenty to crap on in the film, the romance being one of them, but overall I enjoyed more of the movie than I disliked it.

I think if they had dropped the anime eyes gimmick the film would have been better received. I know I saw them and just disregarded the whole film, it just looked so ridiculous. It wasn't until after a friend said it was an excellent film and bet me to watch it that I did (and they were right).

I enjoyed the movie until the romance happened.

If Alita 2 decides to completely cut the love interest I'm sure it'll be good.

The love interest was already cut in the end hehehe

True but I feel like they'd find a way to either bring him back or get a new one in his place.

I would rather see that than another Avatar.

Though if Cameron wanted to use his Avatar tech to make a Thundercats movie, I wouldn’t complain.

That'd be fantastic, the rollerball competitivion was one of the most fun action sequences in years.

Can she just not have the anime eyes? Or make everyone have the eyes.

I liked this movie. Ending was eeeeehhhhh. Hopefully that gets fixed.

Happy to hear! I loved Alita. Has always been one of my favorite Mangas, liked the Anime adaptions and just thought they did a really good job translating it to the cinema. Best live action Anime in my opinion!

I'm just disappointed in how they turned desty nova from one of my favourite villains, the genius who's entire motivation is setting up the stage in a weird way and laugh as it unravels even if he gets hurt in the process, into a generic mind controlling final boss type.

With most manga adaptations I find that they water out what makes the characters interesting. Sure a battle manga needs good battle choreography but the reason I'm reading it is because of the characters.

I have to admit that it's been quite a while since I read the manga last. That probably saved me from too close comparisons and I could enjoy the movie more on its own terms.

Wouldn't that just be the ending of Elysium?

[–] Steve@communick.news 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Nope.
There's a line in the movie from Grewishka.
"From here there are worlds above worlds above worlds, going higher up than you can imagine."
But there's plenty more story before we ever get to explore that.

Here's hoping, though I can't imagine they'll command the same budget nowadays, which makes me wonder if the style will need to change. After 15 minutes or so, I adjusted to the stylization of Alita's appearance and it didn't bother me, but I have to imagine ditching that touch could save a fair chunk of VFX change. Making every frame containing your main character a visual effect shot can't be cheap.

Honestly interested to see that reveal in live action. I wonder if they can make it nearly as shocking.

I also wanna see Alita fuck up the suicide booth.

After hearing how terrible this movie is and how distracting her eyes are and against my better judgement I checked this movie out and wow was everyone exactly right.

This movie is terrible and her eyes were absurd….

[–] thericofactor@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 days ago

Opinions differ I guess. I thought it was quite good.

Started rewatching it because of this comment. It's an ok movie. Not great but not bad per se. The eyes are an aesthetic choice and fit in with the rest of the movie, don't bother me.

Of course I'm a sucker for most scifi, I even consider Jupiter Ascending a guilty pleasure and watched both parts of Rebel Moon. Those are objectively bad movies. Oh, and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Great guilty pleasure.

A movie doesn't have to be great to be enjoyable.
