Hey dnb hedz. Producer here. Really just seeing if I could get some feedback on this new idea. Thanks and keep on head banging d( '_')b

EDIT: Sorry it's a bit late, the changes weren't too challenging, just got caught up with other things, but if anyone is curious, I have uploaded the new version and adjusted the link. If you commented previously, please take another look and let me know if this is better.

Pretty solid overall, the mix sounds good.

The bass instrument that starts at 20s doesn't really hit for me, it sounds a bit "bubbly", I dunno how to describe it. Probably personal preference but I think something a bit cleaner and sharper would work better, give it some more intensity.

The tough-ass breakdown at 1:08 is sick, best part of the track imo and should be more of it.

The leadup into the drop that starts at 1:20 is too empty, needs some atmospherics like a slow sweep or something to fill the space better. Same at 1:55.

I think the drop at 2:10 needs to ramp up into the crescendo of the track. Bring that tough section (or elements of it) that I mentioned before (that you play only briefly at 2:08) into the main part of the track and really smash the peak of the track out into something huge. As it is, that drop builds up, hits that tough-ass bit and then just goes back to the kind of plodding bit that you started the track with. Needs a better payoff.

Keep up the good work, shows some promise.

As a small aside: some people (a lot?) get turned off by the AI artwork. It kind of leads people to make assumptions about AI use in your music as well. Like, I assume your vocals are AI generated? And once I've assumed that, it makes me wonder what other parts of your music are. Not a big deal to me, as someone just reviewing this track, but for an audience that you want to attract it could be impactful.

Thanks for the detailed timestamped feedback. I think I agree with most of your points and I just wanted to offer you clarification (and thanks because I never considered the use of AI imagery would lead to people thinking the music was AI, but that makes perfect sense). None of the music is AI, it's all just audio. I primarily work with Audio and maybe use a MIDI track rarely, this track there are none which is typical. Either it's a one-shot sample or a loop and it's either placed as is and simply balanced or rearranged/chopped/reversed/etc.. insert whatever manipulation I employed at the time. The vocal itself was just a loop and it hasnt been rearranged, but it's been repitched and fed through a plugin which is why it bends pitch and formants throughout the track.

Mixing is very light on this track, partly because I do a lot of mixing things after arrangement, but also because it doesn't need much. I haven't car tested yet and that's my sub proving ground, if you will, so I was afraid of the main bass not being enough because I didn't add a sub layer, but again I need to car test for my verification. I definitely agree about the part at 1:20, it feels kinda janky and I haven't played with that part a lot, just kinda moved past. I'll take some time though and find what might flow better.

As for the drop energy, I felt like it flowed well, but I'm hearing the same thing from you and another commenter, so I will look into adjusting that, but I think if I address a potential sub problem with the primary bass line, which is sort of a syncopated pluck pattern, it would sound different, and I'm torn with my kick here, the tone is perfect, but the punch and the envelope are weak, especially for drum and bass.

Thanks though for the feedback, I will address these things later tonight after I handle what I need to today. If you're interested I'll probably update this thread before the holiday unless these fixes prove more challenging than I anticipate.

I quite like it in my crappy headphones but would want to listen on something proper to get a real feel for the bass in particular.

I like the vibes but as the other commenter mentioned that second drop is disappointing as fuck.

It has a few seconds where it sounds like it is winding up for a dirtier version of the first but then it just drops into what sounds like a mid song bridge and it takes all of the energy and payoff away and makes the end of the track sound a bit flat and boring :)

Love it, had me bopping along.

Main comment would to look at song structure and phrasing. ie, thinking in blocks of 16 bars for the major segments of your track. You could sit with each theme for a full 16 bars make it a 5 min track without anything really new. Dropping down to the hats and snare section around 1.20 can be twice as long before rushing into the build.

That full build is nice, but build right back into a 'chorus' with the vocals and the highest part of your track. That section you go into at 2.15 feels more like a runout at the end, switch that round with the vocals first, and then the instrumental to end.

The second half has some nice twiddly sweeps and hints that a change is coming. But in the first half, most of the changes are quite abrupt between major sections. eg. when the drums drop in and the tune drops out at the same time. When the vocals are in you have a nice FM static type punctuation of every 4 bars. More of that kind of thing for a major shift! EDM goes overboard with them but used sparingly they make a track easier to listen to. Deadmou5 on some of his livestreams in the studio talks about them a lot. either a muted drum roll into the change, a simple filter sweep, dropping out a couple of drum channels for half a bar, an increasing echo, or many many other little fiddly bits to carry you over the change.
