And do not, under any circumstances, take a job that involves night shifts. This shit should be illegal.

"And do not, under any circumstances, take a job that involves night shifts. This shit should be illegal."

While true for most professions this obviously doesn't apply to firefighters, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), emergency dispatchers, air traffic controllers, nurses, trauma surgeons, police, weather forecasters, et cetera. Basically all professions where human lives are at stake require night shifts. The crucial part is that people who want to do night shifts should only need to do night shifts as to have a healthy sleeping pattern. Anything preventing people from having a decent sleeping cycle against their will should be illegal.

Am an AEMT (advanced EMT). Work night shift. LOVE that shit. Hate the fact that the rest of the world insists on only existing dayside, so I have to get up during the day for appointments and school. I can't have a sleep schedule because people don't see an issue with making me do things at noon. How would they like it if I made them do shit at 2am?

Night shift is great. Life is better when the sun isn't burning my retinas off and 90% of the population is sound asleep in their beds. I get to be in the earlier stages of my day as the sun is setting and ending it as the sun is rising, and that's cool as shit. The best feeling ever is driving home as morning rush hour is starting and everyone is grumpy on their way to work and I'm on my way home to my nice comfy bed to sleep in peace.

I disagree. I recently had to cover a dayshift and I hated it! Never again, I will quit my job before they make me work dayshift.

I haven't slept for more than four hours a night in three years. I had a TBI, and if no one found me and called an ambulance, I would have died. So, for me, adulthood is all about falling asleep at 10 PM and waking up two hours later at midnight. I'm here on the US east coast and I've been up for over an hour.

Do you feel well-rested after that much sleep?

TBIs are awful. That sleep thing sounds horrible but at least you can still communicate. Hope you're surviving okay.

I've been dealing with poor sleep habits for at least the past 14 years, can confirm.
