Todd did it again. Gonna milk this cow dry.

[–] Speculater@lemmy.world 17 points 6 days ago

Dry? He's ground up the taxidermied corpse into powder and created a firm pudding with it without even attempting to hide the flavor.

There is absolutely no reason this should be still 30fps.

[–] OldQWERTYbastard@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It's a low effort, shameless, money grab. Is anyone surprised?

Remember when games were made by people who enjoyed playing them?

[–] ISolox@lemmy.world 0 points 6 days ago

Can't really call it a cash grab since it's a free update if you already had the anniversary edition on switch 1. Still sucks though.

8 years after the announcement trailer for elder scrolls 6, we have a new elder scrolls release trailer. it's for Skyrim again

[–] cerebralhawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 6 days ago

This is not a new release. Anniversary Edition was already on the Switch. This is specifically branded for the Switch 2 and it includes features to take advantage of the existing hardware.

The real crime is that they want $60 for this, and it still doesn't include basic bug fixes the community has freely shared for over a decade. Like how you can crouch in a certain area by the Dawnstar mine, or outside of Markarth and Solitude in a specific area, and open the Khajiit vendor chest, which is located about an inch below the surface. You can take all their money and wares, it does not count as stealing, and you can sell it back to other vendors. Granted, it's a single player game and the exploit hurts no one, but they did the exact same thing in Starfield (also a single player game) and they fixed that one shortly after it was discovered.

Bethesda could implement all these features and more, like the Open Cities mod, IIRC from the same guy who does the unofficial patch. He has a bunch of mods that make Skyrim a bit more modern. I'd rather have that than all the Creation Club content. Also, Legacy of the Dragonborn, a DLC-sized museum mod (think Animal Crossing, but Elder Scrolls) that adds a new faction and even an alternate start that works you into that faction. Easily the coolest quest mod for Skyrim, and its museum even has a special hall for other DLC-styled mods, where you can collect their unique items as well. I'm not interested in playing the Anniversary Edition of Skyrim. It's just a bunch of shovelware content (and a few good things like the elemental arrows). If they packaged up the Legacy collection (it and all the mods that plug into it), THAT would be worth paying for.

Oh look: tons of comments explaining how this is a ridiculous product that shouldn't exist.

And yet it's going to sell and be profitable.

Re-releasing old games is a great thing. Keep everything available, give consumers options, increase the size of libraries for every platform. Enhanced resolutions and better load times. It's a free upgrade if you already own the Anniversary edition on Switch.

Rather than asking why they are doing this, I think the real question should be why was this not a launch title months ago?

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Perhaps they should do it for more games than Skyrim.

There’s a great back catalog.

Eh I think Fallout 4 is the only one that would really work with.

You could have maybe argued for Oblivion, but I think they made the right call in re-making it. (I know Bethesda calls it a "re-master", but imo when you start re-doing models, NPC behaviors, and voice lines that crosses the threshold into "re-make").

I think Fallout 3 would really benefit from the same re-make treatment Oblivion got. Morrowind too.

Starfield is current gen. Fallout 76 and Elder Scrolls Online are kind of different beasts as live-servics games. The older Elder Scrolls games are so outdated and janky that I think they would either have to completely re-imagine them into functionally new games, or just do a quick port (maybe upscale the resolution and add a few QoL improvements to call it a "re-master") in a cheap sort of "classics collection".

I haven't played the pre-Bethesda Fallout games, but they do look re-makeable. They're also nowhere near as popular as the rest of Bethesda's games so there may not be enough demand for them.

Of course, if there's a lot more options for games by other studios and published by Bethesda, but I could spend all day picking through that library and evaluating lol.

To clarify, I was talking all games in general. Not just BGS.

Which comment says the product shouldn't exist? Please point me to it.

[–] TORFdot0@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

I’ll say this product shouldn’t exist. Nintendo switch games are already playable on switch 2. Releasing this game again on a game system that can already play it is just a money grab.

Remakes and releases take development funds away from new IP. Same with live service. So I’m not a fan.

Ok. Just seems a bit odd as your comment is here under this post commenting the comments on YouTube.

You may laugh, but I legit started playing Skyrim again this week.
Playing as an Orc specializing in two-handed hammers and heavy armor, who always immediately does what any NPC asks him to do (completely forgetting the last quest he was on), eats or drinks whatever he finds, and kills all Imperials on sight.

[–] hellmo_luciferrari@lemmy.zip 5 points 6 days ago

How many times are they going to repackage and sell this damn game

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

While playing Dark Souls, I have been getting an itch to play Skyrim again. Time to try on Switch 2 now!

Kinda disappointing that this is not 60FPS. It's better than Switch 1 version, but they could've made it even better!
