RULES

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (e.g. politics or societal debates).
  4. Stay calm: Don’t post angry or to vent or complain. We are a place where everyone can forget about their everyday or not so everyday worries for a moment. Venting, complaining, or posting from a place of anger or resentment doesn't fit the atmosphere we try to foster at all. Feel free to post those on !goodoffmychest@lemmy.world

The primary reason is to explore my actual life. You know, like I wanna watch myself being born in 3rd person view. I wanna watch my parent's reaction to me being conceived. (I'll skip the actual conceiving... that's too weird lol).

Like I'd probably fast forward a lot, but I wanna like see what I was doing.

What the heck was I even doing as a kid, how did I even pass the time? I have snippets but its a very blurry memory with blackholes. How did I managed to like... just exist without internet?

Find missing pieces, lost memories.

Watching myself used to be able to just be... happy...

I might have a self-obsession, memory-obsession, something.

How much do y'all remember about yourself? Would y'all want to explore your own past with a hypothetical "chronoscope"?

Theoretically, a telescope is what you want for this

One that projects an image in real time from an infinitely-adjustable location and distance, that can see around objects, and can be relocated instantaneously. Also, it must be able to focus and track on an infinitesimal scale. Finally, it must be able to both withstand any environment and escape black holes.

To name it anything other than The Eye of God would do it disservice.

I'm 100% on board with this! Although, full disclosure, I have recently come to the realization that I carry trauma from my childhood and that I survived in large part because I was able to block out so much. So I'd take a chronoscope only with very careful, intentional usage. But, it would be so amazing to get to see, from the perspective of present-day me, what went on back then!

That might be interesting for a while.

Generally speaking, I don’t really look back very much. Going forward is more like my thing. I feel like looking back might be boring, depressing or otherwise useless. Maybe I’m just escaping my past, who knows.

That's called keeping a diary.

Jokes aside, all you'd need for this is one powerful telescope and FTL.

I hate my younger self for not keeping one.

But then again, my shitty older brother would've read it so... yeah... mom also love to do helicopter parent things...

I find time viewing interesting for thought experiments in part because time is intertwined with space. We are spinning around the center of the Earth, which is orbiting the sun, which is orbiting the galactic core. A time-only viewing machine that views past events at our present location will pretty much only observe the vacuum of space.

I mean that's why you also use a telescope too xD
