There's this lady I talk to when I feed the strays. She walks her dog and we have a bit of a chinwag.

She hadnt seen me for a while because I don't get home till 6pm to feed the cats due to work commute.

She came over just now to see if I was OK.

It’s nice to be reminded there are still good people in the world.

[–] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 4 points 2 days ago

Oh I love that, the little connections you can make. So lovely of her to check on you!

I don't really know how to start this but here I go. My husband had a catheter removed in a hospital I didn't know existed let alone been to. My daughter graduated high school and was also diagnosed as inattentive ADHD all within a week. Phew.

She was in NZ at the time her dad fell sick and I didn't have the heart to tell her over the phone so when she came home I had to tell her in the garage. She took it really well.

Because I was focused on his recovery I wasn't able to unpack her diagnosis properly but credit to her she completely understood. Even helped me out with some stuff around the house.

She's now on different meds that so far are working. She's still my forward thinking, intelligent, compassionate, well mannered, funny, cyclonic, messy baby girl and always will be.

It's been a crazy month.

Ps. Don't worry. I'm showered with love and support from them both. I truly am a lucky lady.

Woof, definitely a lot going on for you of late!! Glad to hear you're getting lots of love and support while doling it out to them! Hopefully some peace and calm for you three soon!

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 8 points 2 days ago

We have big plans for boxing day when she'll be spending it with her friend away from the house. Lol.

[–] SituationCake@aussie.zone 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That’s an awful lot to happen in a short space of time. Hope you, husband and daughter are doing as well as can be. Stress can sometimes hit you after the fact, so look after yourself this Xmas and new year!

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 3 points 2 days ago

Right now life couldn't be better. It's certainly gonna be a merry Christmas for me.

[–] PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wow, it's the time of year where everything seems to happen at once! Luckily you're a strong and rational cool-headed person who can deal 😎

It was a very surreal moment in time. I told myself this is not about me and I got on with what I needed to do. Then I had time to myself to decompress. Many many long baths helped with this.

Also the neighbour was giving away their rug, so Mickey gets a Xmas present

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 3 points 2 days ago

Oh he is loving that

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 2 points 2 days ago

Nice. That would make it very easy to photoshop him into any location you want.

[–] SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 2 points 2 days ago

Got a pressure washer you can blast the rug on a hot day? When I do mine so much mank comes out.

[–] Alamutjones@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago

I’m going to bed. Night night

I burned my tongue eating dinner yesterday and still feel it a bit today. I just don’t know how to wait to eat the steaming hot delicious food in front of me.

[–] PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Must've been the day for it. I burnt my lips eating a noodle soup that was very hot both temperature wise and spicy wise. I think my lips got confused with what kind of heat I was dealing with, and today I was mildly worried I was having an allergic reaction to something as my lips were swollen and numb and I looked embarrassingly like I'd had a procedure πŸ˜†

What are some of the best things you've experienced this year?

my answer

  1. Meeting so many new people in all the different settings I've been in!

  2. Started listening to jazz music.

  3. Watching way more movies.

  4. Starting my uni course and going on placements.

  5. Continuing playing music.

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 12 points 2 days ago

Mine's simple.

Remaining sane (ish) lol.

Hopefully it lasts.

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 11 points 2 days ago

Watching my daughter become a more confident independent young lady, getting more out there and experiencing life like young people should thanks to her getting her licence.

As a consequence husband and I having a lot more alone time.

We were a happy family before but now it's more different kinda happy.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 10 points 2 days ago

There has been so much happen this year it's hard to believe it hasn't been longer. I'm never any good at picking out a 'best' thing though, too many variables!

I've bought a new (to me) van to replace my aging car. I've moved to Ballarat, which was easier than I expected it to be (but still a lot of work!). I've done most of the hard work in establishing new gardens. My mother has moved into aged care and is doing well. I've finished my Diploma.

Probably the best thing to me is just seeing a lot of hard work making changes in my life over the last five or so years start to pay off. I'm still not drinking. My budgeting is working well and I'm seeing my savings continue to grow instead of my debt. My meal planning system is working well and I am mostly eating good healthy food. The decluttering and attention to good tidying/cleaning habits mean my house is generally tidy and welcoming instead of chaos.

Reconnecting with old friends and making new ones

Getting off suboxone and feeling life properly

The cats

Making music from genuine feeling again

Getting through some really difficult moments sober

Christmas shopping. I am so excite.

I found an original 1969 3D Toppan postcard of the Moon Landing, near perfect condition, for my dear friend who is an amateur astronomer. I'll put it in a good frame.

And a beautiful 1960s murano necklace with green glass beads that glow, the colour is so pure and the glass so crystalline, and it has pretty wire work settings. It will look lovely on her.

Train excitement!

There was a freight train derailment just past Newport. The train I was on slowed right down as we went past so I had a good squiz.

Two freight cars fell completely, half a dozen other cars were off the tracks. New tracks were already being built where tracks had been destroyed. There were huge cranes lifting up the fallen cars, they had large chains around the bellies of the cars.

It was a long train too, had three large engines and maybe 50 cars.

There were special rail cars to test the tracks, to fix the tracks, to build tracks, crane train cars too.

No one was hurt and it was all very interesting.

[–] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 5 points 2 days ago

Oh wow. That would have been fascinating

I got stuck in the rain yesterday.

And now I'm pretty sure I have a cold. Another excuse to stay in bed and chill?

Why not lol

I've been trying to find somewhere that does bulk meat delivery at decent prices as the places I was going to aren't available to me now I've moved. There are an awful lot of ridiculously expensive options out there, I'm not sure how they have enough customers willing to pay that much. One I just looked at came out to $43 a kilo, and half the box was things like mince, sausages, chicken fillets etc. that are generally a lot cheaper. One that let you choose your own options had little packets of bacon that came out at $83 a kilo. I'm happy to pay that for a couple of top end items, but it is way too high for an average.

Edit: I think I might be able to get some from one of my old suppliers, I think they just need to update the details in the database for the ordering website as I am in a new suburb that isn't listed. Fingers crossed this works out and I can fill up the freezer. They primarily sell to small businesses so have a lot of options that just aren't available retail, including things like different types of bread flour, so I can stock up on a few pantry things too. 🀞

Me, "Sun's not even up, not breakfast time"

Today I

  • repot some plants
  • wrap some presents
  • clean Chook’s cage
[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Get Chook a broom toy for Xmas and tell him to clean his room! (I just couldn’t find a gif of a bird β€˜sweeping’ and thought this was cute)

spoiler

Negatives for today: I am at work

Positives for today: Yummy breakfast muffin and a chicken salad for lunch. People haven't been burning things down or crashing their cars too much so far today, so I've gotten some life admin out of the way.

I think on balance today is a good day.
