Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

I grew up in a shitberg redneck town.

Succession? Could be Bobby Dave's HVAC Empire.

Beast In Me? Country-ass redneck issues in NYC.

It goes on and on. As with Greek tragedies, very little separates the shepherd and the king.

Edit: I challenge you to name any show or movie about modern rich people that I can't put in a redneck context

It's not morality and conscience that's stopping many people (mostly in some select societies but ofc, globally) from being their worst selves chasing their hedonistic highs and power trips, but a lack of opportunity. 🤷

I'm suggesting the exact opposite.

That we tell stories of drama and tradgedy and greed and irrational decisions when we think that opportunity and resources aren't limitations. As if those limits prevent normal people from losing their morals.

In reality, it's just normal human behavior. The desire for wealth and power and greed doesn't know or depend on how much money you have. We once fought to the death over water and livestock and crops. That hasn't changed.

Ooh, ooh! Do these:

  1. Sex and the City

  2. Eyes Wide Shut

  3. Home Alone

  4. Batman

Challenge accepted!

  1. Sex and the City. So, in this case, small town blogger writes about dating and banging people? Where to start... https://southernbonvivant.com/dating-south-sex-classic-city/ (Athens, GA isn't a city by any means) https://smalltowngirlblog.com/

And how to have gay friends! https://www.pointofpride.org/blog/how-to-be-queer-in-a-small-town

  1. Eyes Wide Shut. In this case, swingers? Uh....ok. Swingers and sex parties are everywhere, as it turns out. https://www.swinglifestyle.com/swingers/clubs/florida/ https://alabamaswinger.net/alabama-swingers-clubs/ https://www.close-encounters-club.com/home.html https://www.kasidie.com/swingers/all-upcoming-parties/US/MS

  2. Home Alone Booby trapping your house is illegal, Dale! Just 'cuase you're a prepper doesn't mean you can do it! https://legal-resources.uslegalforms.com/b/booby-traps Classic case - https://law.justia.com/cases/georgia/court-of-appeals/1975/51055.html https://dcsheriff.net/two-highlands-ranch-residents-arrested-for-injury-caused-by-booby-trap/ https://www.mirasafety.com/blogs/news/booby-traps https://www.pinterest.com/kirkrobinson62/booby-traps/

  3. Batman. So people wearing costumes doing vigilante stuff. In the South? .....wait..... no, not like that. Like, against criminals, right? I'll be honest, the wikipedia page on vigilante justice in the US is littered with white supremacy shit. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vigilantism_in_the_United_States There is a trend of pedo-hunters, though. Which I don't mind. Some wear disguises and some don't live in cities. Oh! Alaska is on the list, too https://allthatsinteresting.com/jason-vukovich-alaskan-avenger https://www.click2houston.com/news/local/2019/12/21/vigilante-pedophile-hunters-helping-out-or-interfering/ Ugh, more weird history of the US - https://www.collectorsweekly.com/articles/what-ozark-vigilantes-of-the-1880s-reveal-about-modern-america/

Podunk. And none of these things are class, race, or gender conscious, maybe not age. It depends on socialization and how the brain is wired. So if it's not you (us), you (we) hit a genetic and social lottery, and/or did a lot of work on ourselves.

Is redneck drive to survive just some guys racing around on golf carts?

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

Kart racing. Or dirtbikes. Take your pick.
