[D2R] Is there any point to using a spear outside an Act 2 merc? (lemmy.zip)

Started a Javazon recently and wondered why spears aren't used. For Javazons, it makes sense since you need to be able to throw your weapon for most skills. Additionally, you can equip a shield for much needed survivability since the Amazon is quite squishy.

Then I wondered if there's any point to using a spear at all. Are there any classes that would use them?

I've seen WW Barbs use them. I think it really comes down to if you can hit certain attack speed breakpoints. They start quite slow but with high base damage.

I think there were some Spearazon builds back in the day. It was definitely less popular than javelins, though.
