If nuts make brownies worse, then that would imply that brownies are already bad (as a starting point). Bad => worse
Incidentally, I agree with the premise that nuts do not belong in brownies.
Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!
How voting works:
Vote the opposite of the norm.
If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.
Guidelines:
Tag your post, if possible (not required)
Rules:
1. NO POLITICS
Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.
2. Be civil.
Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Please also refrain from gatekeeping others' opinions.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...
Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.
5. No trolling.
This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.
6. Defend your opinion
This is a bit of a mix of rules 4 and 5 to help foster higher quality posts. You are expected to defend your unpopular opinion in the post body. We don't expect a whole manifesto (please, no manifestos), but you should at least provide some details as to why you hold the position you do.
Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/

You're right.
I looove some pecans and/or walnuts in my brownies, especially if toasted first. Disagree that you can't taste them and I like the textural variety.
If it's a texture thing for you, how do you feel about chocolate chips in your brownies?
Toasted first is the key!
Same with quick breads (pumpkin with pecans is divine).
Not the OP but chocolate chips don’t belong in brownies! There’s already enough chocolate flavor in there. Why go overkill?
Enough.. chocolate... What is that? Ridiculous notion
Burn the heretic!
Sign me up for overkill! Plus there can be flavor variety, have the chips be a darker or lighter chocolate than the brownie.
Walnuts ftw.
Or pecans. Basically a softer walnut
I am also pro walnuts. They've not much flavour on their own, but when I make the exact same recipe without them, it's sweeter, too rich, but also unsatisfying. I end up eating more of them despite enjoying them less.
With walnuts though, they're satisfying. I enjoy them more, and then I'm satisfied after a couple pieces. I think the fibre and fats in the nuts actually helps my body to 'see' the brownie as food in a way that hyper-processed flour and sugar can't be.
If it's just for blander flavour, why not using saw dust? No reason poisoning good food with ~~nuts~~ tree turds.
Hmm, I'm not sure my gut's microbiome would recognise the sawdust as digestible food and trigger actual satiation hormones. Nor would my brain recognise any protein chains associated with nutrition while my mouth broke it down. Digestive systems detect so much complicated information, you have to work at it to trick them. There's something nutritious in the walnuts that my system really likes and is noticeably glad to eat.
If your system doesn't need whatever walnuts would provide, perhaps your own baking needs a different alternative... Would you prefer some Omega-3 rich fish oil instead, make those brownies extra fudgy? :P
Just get used to it. When I was young I'd been grateful for some saw dust! All we got was coal dust back then and we had to walk three miles through the snow for it.
I agree with this one. A moist pure brownie is the best. If I want some other texture, I'd put dark chocolate chips.
Brownies, banana bread, and ice cream too.
Don't mix my textured!
And yet I like nuts by themselves.
Nuts are delicious but almost always only by themselves. Nuts inside of things usually only makes the nuts and the things worse.
I'm not really big on nuts in chocolate brownies. It's a texture thing. I don't like the soft but hard thing.
However I make browned butter and bourbon blondies with toasted pecans and they add a lot of flavor.

Counter-point: Donald Trump.
True I hate him the most
I agree and feel the same about ice cream. I wish I could eat pistachio ice cream without the actual pistachios.
Nah, Macadamia ice cream were its about 25% actual Macadamia nuts is my favourite
I didn't even think of this but yes absolutely. And on cakes
Being highly allergic against nuts I strongly agree. Nutmongers should be flogged in public places, food containing nuts should be sprayed orange with black skulls and crossbones all over, then cast in concrete and buried in the desert. Groceries should be regularily sanitized by squirrels and nuts should be a forbidden word because it triggers me. Aaaaah! Eeeeeh! °°Nuts! THe pAiN! cLeaNing wOmAn!°o0! NUTS! Don't even think that n-word! We should call them "tree turds" from now on
got the nut part right
I agree. Simply because I prefer chewy brownies and don't want any crunch. I don't even like the edges, and I know those are more popular than the middle cuts because a hot ticket kitchen item has been the all edge brownie pan.
The edges are the worst! Me and twin fight over the soft delicate brownie innards and give the edges to my husband. Luckily he's the weirdo who likes those!
Nuts in brownies are an abomination.
Nuts in cookies are just terrible.
Nuts in a snickers bar are tolerable.
Strongly disagree. Have an upvote.
Have you tried nuts on brownies?
Seems like a pretty popular opinion, judging by these comments. Personally I struggle to think of anything that isn't improved by adding nuts, both on the savoury and sweet side of things.
Cronch good
Yes, yes, one thousand times yes! I understand sometimes putting nuts on top of something, but when they are mixed in to a brownie or cake or bread they ruin the texture. People who mix nuts into their baking are sociopaths.
Ok but adding things to things and mixing different things is how we get variety. You may not like it but brownies with nuts or anything else added is all part of the process my dude.
The secret is to make them yourself. Then they’re exactly how you like.
Not a fan of nuts in a lot of things. I don’t put nuts in brownies, banana bread, or cookies. If someone has a preference for them, I’ll separate out part of the recipe and add nuts at the end. Some things they do belong in, like an almond croissant, and that's fine.
Nuts ruin almond croissants: change my view.
