The licensed Shaw Brothers channel on Youtube ~~just~~ uploaded the martial arts classic directed by Lau Kar-leung (credited in English by his name in Mandarin Liu Chia-liang) , starring Gordon Liu & Lo Lieh.

  • 1080p
  • High quality restoration
  • Spoken language: Mandarin
  • Subtitles: English, soft subs. Translation quality: from my brief check, not fantastic but better than many HK kung fu films of the period.
  • I believe the SB channel removes uploads after a period of time, so watch it while you can!

Movie Info

The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (1977) (少林三十六房), directed by Liu Chia-liang (劉家良), is a legendary martial arts film that follows the journey of Liu Yu-te (Gordon Liu Chia-hui), a young man driven by the need to avenge the death of his family at the hands of the Manchu oppressors. Liu, a former student of the anti-Qing patriot Ho Kuang-han, is forced to flee after his teacher and many students are killed in an attack orchestrated by the Ching authorities. Seeking vengeance and strength, Liu travels to the Shaolin Temple where he begins his arduous training in the famed 35 chambers.

The 36th Chamber of Shaolin received critical acclaim and is widely considered to be one of the greatest kung fu films ever made and a highly influential entry in the genre.

EDIT: Apparently it was uploaded 8 months ago, not sure why my Subscriptions showed it to me today.
And I think what happens with the SB channel might be that after a while, films are moved to the "Golden Vault", i.e. require paid subscription.
