Maybe people are instinctively wanting to archive what they like, in fear of things vanishing from availability

That was me as I was saving up for mine. Ended up having and getting a cheaper but still decent one, but for a while I was definitely a part of that subset. And yes, a lot of my purchases were absolutely driven by FOMO. Honestly don't regret any of them though. The not-so-great ones were cheap anyways

The sound fidelity of vinyl is measurably inferior to CD-quality digital audio, as the technology introduces various kinds of distortion. Some of these are perceived as “warmth”, and/or bound in with the ritual of playing the record, so some people see it as a plus.

I’ve bought a few records in recent years, though have never actually played them. I bought them for the artwork, and listen to the FLAC files that came with the Bandcamp download code.
