[–] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 29 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Newsflash: the American project has never been about or for the poor. This is more of the same.

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 33 points 3 days ago

Well yeah no shit thats why I said it

[–] AreaKode@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Gotta wake up from the American Dream!

[–] ohlaph@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Thanks Captain Obvious.

Venezuela is now a protectorate of the United States.

Hmm... What does that remind me of...

The pages of that Nazi playbook are really getting frayed.

[–] velindora@lemmy.cafe 43 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This is an example of how the military will do whatever Trump says. No provocation. Just know that in October when he declares martial law before the midterms, the military will come down on the US without hesitation.

Get out while you can.

[–] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 25 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (3 children)

Indeed, and that also should tell you how much value members of the armed forces really place on their pledge to uphold the Constitution.

If they followed the USMJ's rule on not obeying illegal orders, none of them would have agreed to attack boats in the Caribbean, much less participated in this coup in Venezuela.

I guess the consolation is that their heads will roll in a few years after the Trump regime is toppled and they all get tried for what they did.

This is why people who dismiss an invasion of Greenland/Canada/Mexico are naive. He's openly threatened all 3.

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

I'm expecting Greenland->Canada->Mexico->don't know.

They will attack Greenland/Denmark first, as a way to figure out what actually happens within NATO. Annexing and holding Greenland won't be much of a problem. The population is mostly uneducated, non-military and very few.

Once they've seen that fuckall will happen, Canada is next. At this point they will expect a bigger push-back from whatever remains of NATO, but ultimately NATO won't be able to do much, since Greenland will be a strong tactical defensive position in the area.

Next up is a bit of a breather while trying to calm down the Canadian people. They'll do this by having military pressence in the biggest cities, shooting random people, withholding food, water, meds from the population. They'll pretty much use the Israeli approach here. It's been shown to be quite effective at deterring rebels, and the world has shown it doesn't give half a shit about it.

Finally they're going for Mexico. Why not take them sooner? Because annexing a bunch of brown people, making them part of the USA isn't what the fascist base wants. They will however be needed as cheap slave labour once the world starts cutting off USA. The economy will be shit, living conditions will start to deteriorate, and slaves in the field will be needed.

I'm hoping I'm wrong about this....

[–] Typhoon@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 days ago

I hope you're wrong too, but I think you've got it exactly.

[–] Ohmmy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

People with the intelligence and empathy to disobey orders don't generally join the military.

[–] RaoulDuke85@piefed.social 3 points 3 days ago

Military doesn't pay you to think. Just kill.

[–] velindora@lemmy.cafe 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Sorry, but there is no end to this regime. And no heads will topple, because no politician wants to encourage people to disobey orders because of conscience (which is subjective).

Later this year Trump will use martial law to control the elections. He will use his new ICE agents, as part of that $100m recruitment campaign, to block polling locations. His new USPS postmark nonsense is to block mail in votes from counting.

He has this in the bag. There will never be another legitimate election in the US. Democracy is dead for the next few generations.

GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN

[–] AmbiguousProps@lemmy.today 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN

I keep seeing this - get out where? How? With what money? I can barely afford to live right now. No countries are taking in refugees from the US from what I can tell.

I appreciate the thought, but the US capitalistic machine has trapped most of the US population, by design of course.

[–] velindora@lemmy.cafe 1 points 3 days ago

Good point.

GET OUT IF YOU CAN WHILE YOU CAN

[–] Twig@sopuli.xyz 37 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Any idea how the actual people of Venezuela are reacting to this?

[–] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 34 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I reckon Trump just made a martyr out of Maduro. Even his staunchest opponents domestically will not take the US takeover kindly.

[–] Twig@sopuli.xyz 18 points 3 days ago

That's what I'm thinking. They won't take this lying down, surely?

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 11 points 3 days ago

Venezuelans have become increasingly helpless and uneducated over the last generation due to policy decisions. Those still within the country are largely those who couldn’t find a means to leave or those who refused to do so. A lot of impotent frustration going around, to say the least

[–] I_Jedi@lemmy.today 1 points 3 days ago

As far as I know, they're overjoyed that Maduro is gone. What precisely will happen next isn't certain yet, so they feel hopeful.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 22 points 3 days ago

Interesting that Donvict gets a nice distraction from not only the Epstein files, but from his worsening medical situation, and the fact that many Americans are having their healthcare ripped away.

[–] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 18 points 3 days ago (3 children)

However egregious this is, it should not distract us from the Epstein files.

Because remember: ultimately this is probably nothing more than Trump's latest attempt to make everybody forget he's a sex fiend and a probable pedo.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 20 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I dont think so. The US private sector has wanted to regain control of Venezuelan oil since Chavez gained power. This is literally just that coming to fruition.

Evil scum fuck country the US is. I wonder what it will take before Americans actually do something.

[–] AbsolutelyNotAVelociraptor@sh.itjust.works -3 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Don't worry, I've heard that after this coup, the usonians are so angry that are going to protest... with very harsh words written in cardboards! That will surely teach the chlid rapist to not do what he just did

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 7 points 3 days ago

9 downvotes and counting for you from burgerlanders who think they’re doing tons by peacefully protesting once a month while the rest of us get fucked by their government and military.

[–] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

They might even organize a naked bike ride. That's how pissed off they are!

Of course, they can't do any better, seeing as though none of them are armed to resist the regime...

[–] AbsolutelyNotAVelociraptor@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

They don't even need to be armed. A strike. A nation-wide strike. They only need to stop working for a couple of days and Trump's head will be served by the same oligarchs that today are praising him.

But I guess that's just too much... they might even lose their jobs, you know?

They (and the rest of the world thanks to them) are gonna have a few more nice years of this child rapist unless someone tries again and aims 5 cm to the right.

[–] bearboiblake@pawb.social 9 points 3 days ago

The epstein files is the B-side to the rising tide of fascism and imperialism. Both are important stories and both need probably equal attention. The recent Minnesota fraud stuff is the bigger Epstein distraction

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 3 points 3 days ago

And it's just yet another turn of the gears that makes me want to see that shitpile country implode like it was supposed to do ~30 years ago.

[–] respectmahauthoritybrah@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Gonna sound like a broken record but everyone was saying and warning since the israeli offensive on gaza that this would lead to complete annihilation of international law and that its a warning, but nobody cared about brown and muslims (what a combo)… well we are seeing it now, countries can just invade and claim control of any territory if they are powerful enough..

Good Luck Europe next.. hope you issue more “grave concerns” while putin is having an orgasm seeing this

[–] paraphrand@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I assume their country has a succession order, so don’t they need to kidnap the whole line?

[–] I_Jedi@lemmy.today 1 points 3 days ago

I believe Trump isn't above going down the line of succession until someone says yes.

[–] CptOblivius@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

This seems like a 1939 Poland type incident.

[–] My_IFAKs___gone@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Venezuelanschluss

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Run Venezuela?

Trump will install whatever corporate suck-ups bribe him to pillage any value Venezuela has. From oil to beachfront property. Then he’ll put in a puppet leader in the “transition.”

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yes, that's what he said. He did show you how good he was at it with the US after all.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You seem to think I implied he would do a good job. Not a chance. He’ll wreck things but still take all the profits.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

I never thought such a thing. I'm certain that just as you suppose, he's going to do an even worse job than in the US.

[–] switcheroo@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

With whose fucking money, asshole???

If other countries could just go arrest criminals then why the fuck don't they all start with the shithead-in-chief multiple time felon, and child rapist???
