We are going to run the country
Poorly, I'm sure. But most importantly it will be without the consent of the Venezuelan people. Not that he, or the Americans who support him, care.
A community for discussing events around the World
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

We are going to run the country
Poorly, I'm sure. But most importantly it will be without the consent of the Venezuelan people. Not that he, or the Americans who support him, care.
he is going to play runescape
I could absolutely see trump trimming armor
Jesus Christ this guy
I watched the whole thing.
Yeah. For all of Trump's Trumpiness, at least he's direct. There's no euphamism: he stated he's running Venezuela, at least 3 times just in case it wasn't clear. He wants the "right" kind of ruler to take over. He reiterated that US oil companies are coming in to rebuild their infrastructure, repeatedly. He cited the Monroe doctrine.
There's no pretense.
I think this (frankly) refreshing bluntness is what makes the bits of disinformation so effective.
He tells it like it is
I remember Trump's first campaign ad where he said he was going to "bomb Iran and take their oil." To the best of my memory, those were the exact words. And things like that are why I will never forgive anyone who "didn't know what they were voting for." He was very clear from the beginning on what he was about.
He's pitching US hegemony instead of a condo in his new residential complex (construction permit pending approval)
He’s a hawk that’s going to take on Iran and cartels better than past presidents.
He’s American First, putting a stop all these immigrants and foreign wars.
He’s a staunch Christian who will protect Christian values and Israel.
He’s a man's man, a ladies man, and will take on the Jew pedo conspiracy.
He’s a culture warrior. A president who will bring unity. Pro-business, a megacorp fighter. A small town advocate, and pro crypto, pro tech technocratic libertarian. A strongman who will purge despotic liberals
Basically, voters all got their own personalized version of Trump, and they still kinda get it in their news feeds. So they are getting what they voted for… through a small, warped selectively sliced vision of reality. And Trump’s “condo salesman” style plays into this social media typhoon really, really well.
Cue "I declare bankruptcy!" GIF
I don't understand how after listening to him talk you can think "yes the us is running Venezuela now"
A president has attacked a sovereign nation with no authorization from Congress, kidnapped its head of state for no other reason than "making money from oil" and uhh drugs I guess. But legitimacy of the whole thing aside, do you think he's competent enough to "run" a whole other country?
And how do you imagine the average Venezuelan is taking this? "Oh welp guess we are 'run' by the Americans now, better go apply for a job at Exxon"
Friend, don’t shoot the messenger. I am just paraphrasing what he said in the speech.
I'm not so sure the venezuelans are going to cooperate as much as trump thinks they will.
"They will be in awe of the American greatness! New jobs for the poor stupid people of Venezuela! Liberated by capitalism!"
- Trump's mind, probably
I'm sure he's so old, racist, and a psychopath that he doesn't really realize there's millions of living, thinking humans down there
Just like the Iraqis in their day, I'm afraid.

Run the country?!
That dickhead couldn't even run a bath
That's a totally normal and very modern and democratic thing to do
If 23 years ago counts as "modern," yes.
Since he's running the country, how much effort is being sent on Tren de Agua or any of the other gangs he's been so adamant are ruining the United states?
He might legitimately purge them. Or commit genocide. Or just give the country to the oil companies sponsoring him. Hard to say
Trump will start a deal with those gangs
Does that mean we’re sending ICE there?
Deport all those Mexicans in Venezuela back to, uh, somewhere!

Imagine if Putin had done that to Ukraine
They have tried and failed to capture/kill him and his family multiple times.
Hell, just last week they said he'd have to be in hiding forever.
Maduro and Trump are friends
Maduro gets to escape his country and save face instead of being assassinated or executed.
Trump gets to manufacture a conflict so he can start martial law and become a dictator, and to distract from us learning he came inside little girls.
