The world needs to take the threat of the US very, very seriously. Don't assume that upcoming US elections will fix the problem. There's no guarantee those elections will even take place. Take steps to protect yourselves now.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 22 points 5 days ago (6 children)

Exactly how? How does one protect themselves from the largest military in history with trillions in budget? And what do we use? Almost all munitions are made in US or controlled by US.

They lost to illiterate Shepard's in the mountains

Yeah but they had mountains.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 18 points 5 days ago

That is what happen when we are too selfish. Countries been fine with americans terrorism till the threat because about them

Martin Niemöller quote apply here

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

[–] RickyRigatoni@retrolemmy.com 6 points 5 days ago

Apes together strong.

Are the other of the nations of the world really so helpless? Hopeless? If you want to roll over and die, that's up to you, but if it were me, I would fight to the death, even and especially if it were a lost cause. I mean, look at the guerilla fighters who fought back against the mighty US in Vietnam or Iraq. They gave the US hell and they sure didn't have trillions of dollars to work with. Sure, the guerilla fighters lost a lot, but they made damn certain that America didn't "win."

[–] Randomgal@lemmy.ca 16 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Bro swallowed American propaganda line hook and sinker.

The US is far from invincible, and weapons are not needed. The reason the US continues to do whatever it wants is because either countries don't offer any retaliation at all.

When sanctions start finally coming against the US. They'll realize all they have been destroying is the stool they were standing on.

The US as it is today can't exist without trade. It is not self sufficient and the largest army in the world is useless if you can't feed them.

Don't be brainwashed into thinking facism can't be stopped.

[–] verdi@feddit.org 5 points 4 days ago

There are many ways to stop the us on their tracks, their supply chain is impossibly weak due to years of profiteering and centralization. Within a couple of months, even Denmark, with only 6M inhabitants, could paralize the US quite easily. The US swings the largest hammer in the world but the arm that wields it is impossibly brittle and full of weaknesses.

[–] cheesybuddha@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

Large scale weapons tooling and manufacturer with the entire supply chains outside of the US.

Sorry to say, but it looks like the world is going to need to start gearing up for war.

[–] Bonifratz@piefed.zip 20 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Canada would be wise to build nukes ASAP.

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

It's also finish to assume that this isn't what Americans want.

[–] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 16 points 5 days ago (3 children)

Some Americans absolutely want this. But, yes, it's probably not a majority. Of course, I don't think the majority can, or will, do anything about it.

[–] wewbull@feddit.uk 14 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Most don't have international relations on their radar, or if they do they think it's tariffs that have soured relationships.

[–] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

Exactly. The majority aren't going to take action against something that isn't on their radar. The majority may just be along for the ride, but that doesn't change the destination.

[–] CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 5 days ago

I don’t think that a majority really sees a problem with the USA throwing their weight around.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Majority voted Trump, twice.

[–] thejml@sh.itjust.works 8 points 5 days ago

Actually, thats false. Not that it matters. Hillary had more votes than Trump in that race. And besides that, with a roughly a third of people not voting, no one truly had the Majority of Americans... just the majority of Americans that gave enough of a crap about their country and future of the world to get off their ass and vote.

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 5 days ago

Hey!

Looks like the Fallout timeline is looking more realistic, eh?

... oh god this sucks...

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 20 points 5 days ago

Before Trump version .2 beta male, this was a decent alliance between America, Canada, and Australia to expand rare earth mining to combat China.

Now it's all thrown away by fragile ego Americans and Nazis. Great job there guys.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 4 days ago

I've been playing a ton of Victoria 3 and Europa Universalis V lately, and I can't help but view events from a Paradox grand strategy paradigm... And all I can say is that the actions of the US would be the cause of an immediate death spiral in any of those games

[–] whotookkarl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Canada is not safe until they have nukes, it's the only thing cowardly dictators understand is violence or the threat of violence.

I’m surprised that the article didn’t mentioned that the Canada is fiscal paradise for mine corporations. Hell, we have deployed our military in Africa to quell resistance of some projects

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 7 points 5 days ago

Sio Silica is trying very hard to put their foot in Manitoba's door and start extracting a shitload of silica from Manitoba's water tables. They are a private Canadian company but dicking around with water tables scares me. The potential damage could be excruciating.

He's gonna try something, and I believe he'll start by attacking Quebec since the rest of Canada wont really mind and that will give him control on energy.

Seriously, fuck the USA and it's selfish braindead population of pedo-lovers.

[–] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 11 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Why the fuck would we not mind if Quebec was attacked? Its a part of Canada. Yeah we might trash talk the Quebecois but we wouldnt be ok with them being attacked.

This is the most braindead take Ive seen in a long time.

[–] Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 0 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Lol, Trump official have mentioned Quebec numerous times, suggesting they need to free the people from high taxes rates. Electricity, water and aluminum are all resources cited by the fascists, that they wanted more control on.

Overall it's a question of acceptability, if the US needs to wipe out a part of the Canadian population to show how serious they are, the rest of Canada would mostly agree to throw Quebec under the bus. I've been all around the country and there is absolutely no doubt about that in my mind.

[–] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

This is the dumbest shit Ive read in a while.

[–] Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works -2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Eloquent. I've live in BC, Ontario and QC and I've seen enough to know the ROC won't lift a finger for Quebec. Canada would already be a full blown conservative country if it wasn't from Quebec. Bonne chance

[–] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago
[–] TemplaerDude@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 days ago

This sounds like something a fake Canadian would say.

I have as many jokes about Francophones as they have for anglophones. It doesn’t mean I’m not going to bend over and let Americans walk into this country. Anywhere.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

Alberta is where most of the oil is, and Danielle Smith and the other Cons are buddy buddy with Trump. Wouldn't be surprised if they show up on a certain island's logbook either. They're already trying to break away so I expect Danielle will trade it all for a funnel cake and a firm handshake

[–] Mpatch@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Loool thar garbage ass oil that there is only one refinery on this side if the world that can refine it some where in the states and they don't even want it? That shit oil?

[–] puppinstuff@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 days ago

Attacking the maple syrup cartels would be starting the game on nightmare difficulty.
