The US are a fascist country because there is a huge portion of its society that are fascists. Not just a few, not just some rotten apples.
In their defense Minneapolis is a really liberal area. 90% of the rest of Minnesota counties go red, but in the twin cities it's generally not that way. I could understand how someone could think they live next to like minded people given that situation.
There is absolutely a fascist problem here in the states, but I'll empathize with people that are trying to stay sane and avoid politics in their social lives which in turns can mean they're ignorant to things around them.
When every single Trump voter/enabler lies to their grandkids about where they stood, get in their diseased faces and call them out. Do this until they are in the fucking ground.

Lol, how can you be from the Midwest and not see how many folks are right-wing nutters here? I'm north of the 45th parallel and my town is 70% Republicans that still support Trump after all of this.
Minnesota, it’s the hicks in the out state. Duluth is a bit mixed, but more progressive than the rural areas surrounding it, and you get up towards Roger’s and suddenly it’s trump country. Same going south, too.
The twin cities and Duluth pretty much makes me blue. (And we’re not as reliably blue as many would care to pretend.)
SE Minnesota is weird. There's pockets of conservatives then REALLY blue areas. But the further west you go, it's all MAGAt territory. Thankfully not nearly as populated but fucked up none the less.

If you go to archive.ph you can just paste in the article's URL and read it. If it's not already archived, you may need to wait for the site to do so, but generally in my experience, most articles are already archived. There are also Firefox extensions that can bypass paywalls very effectively with no effort on your part.
