He hasn't been the craziest one for almost four years now.

[–] MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world 51 points 2 months ago

N. Korea has 3 years to make a comedy about 2 journalist traveling to the USA to interview the President

In a way he's sort of like westboro baptist church in the states. Once universally despised now outdone by more crazy and sort of forgotten about

[–] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 17 points 2 months ago (6 children)

I’m from Topeka, home of Westboro. One year, the protested my high school band concert

You are so right. Even in my home town, they are a small nuisance compared Trump. Part of that has to do with the patriarch of the cult dying in 2014, but part of it is absolutely because Trump is crazier and more nonsensical than they are. And that’s saying something.

Hello, neighbor to the south. I remember Kevin Smith managed to get one of Shirley's daughters out of the cult and I think the other daughter left as well

I really hope someone in thigh-high striped socks takes one for the team and makes out with someone in front of the Westboro protesters in Kansas. I also really hope someone builds a Unitarian Universalist church near the site of the Westboro church.

The wbc has seen every funny, clever, disgusting, and even abhorrent trolling attempt you could possibly imagine. Someone literally bought the house across the street from them years ago and painted it in the colors of the pride flag. Ultimately the church/family is run by lawyers so they would also catalog the more troubling stuff like death threats too. Before the modern era culture wars they were a group that essentially everyone hated. They’re a hardcore Baptist denomination preaching hate so that alienates your leftists and libs, generally, and they took the attitude of “dead soldiers are gods punishment for America allowing lgbt stuff, 9/11 was a gift from god, etc” which alienated the overwhelming majority of the conservative crowd too so they got hate from every angle.

The proper thing to do is continue to let them fade into obscurity. The best thing that ever happened to them was the lawsuits about freedom of speech and the continued media coverage related to their ridiculous messaging. They weren’t stupid either; they recognized 99.99% of the people watching them on cnn or whatever would write them off as extremist kooks. But if 10 million people watch that interview? That 0.01% leave 1,000 potential new members to the flock, with those numbers. And this is where the growth was seen: peak membership was in the era preceding Phelps death, and its waned since. The brainwashed family members are primarily what you see in the time preceding and after (though not exclusively, some people who joined stayed and some family have broken free).

As always, the best way to deal with a troll is ignoring and certainly not giving said troll media exposure to an audience of millions to help them recruit.

Anything that could have been legally done to troll and harass them has already been done through the years. There used to be a sub dedicated to trolling them on reddit way back in the day. Back when reddit was used for good and not supporting fascists

Genuinely can’t tell if that’s real or an edit lmao

[–] TheBenCommandments 5 points 2 months ago

Gods damn I’d pay good money to see him give it a go

[–] slappyfuck@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You can’t tell if Trump is dropping in on a bowl in the DMZ on the Korean border? Lmao I love that.

[–] FearMeAndDecay@literature.cafe 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

More like I wouldn’t put it past him to have posed for this pic. I don’t think he’s actually skateboarding lol

[–] slappyfuck@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

Honestly? He’s such a weirdo that I could see it! It would be rad to see a skate park at the DMZ instead of military huts.

[–] GrammarPolice@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

Best buds🤗

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 28 points 2 months ago

They are awfully close, though. Both in scale of insanity and in affection for each other.

[–] bryophile@lemmy.zip 25 points 2 months ago

Seriously though, the way everyone is now telling Trump what a great leader he is and praising his every action is very much like such a charicature of a leader of a totalitarian regime. The charicature we used to make fun of leaders like Kim.

It's ominous to see this happen with "the leader of the free world".

[–] RedFrank24@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Kim Jong Un is batshit crazy, but he does know the extent of his power. His power doesn't reach much further than North Korea itself, and if he tries anything that might piss off China, he backs off. Trump has no such restrictions, he can do whatever the hell he wants, and does.

The general principle in international relations for the past 100 years is that if you kill your own people, nobody really gives a shit. If you start killing other people, well then that's when other countries start taking notice.

[–] redlemace@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago

Too true to be funny ;)

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 9 points 2 months ago

Trump is jealous that he still has to poop, unlike Glorious Leader Kim Jong.

Give him the same wealth and military power as Trump has, then he will end the world...

[–] lemmy_outta_here@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

No need. Trump's got it covered.

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago (3 children)

I wouldn’t call trump crazy. Senile? Yes. Dumb? Yes. Overly prideful? Yes. Bigoted? Yes. Crazy? No. He’s just beholden to nothing and no one relevant to our perspectives.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 18 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Senile and has dementia could loosely be called crazy.

He is old af, in diapers and talking to the yard about his ballroom while in meetings. He's lost it occasionally and sundowns occasionally. He is not up for the job.

[–] huppakee@piefed.social 2 points 2 months ago

He is not up for the job.

Totally agree, but i'd say he is sane. It's just that he has a different sense of what is normal, a different view on what is morally okay and priorities that are different than those of the average politician. But being crazy is imo different than doing something crazy. I think you could actually do a lot of crazy things without actually being crazy, which is how i see what is happening in the US gov.

[–] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Didn't he want to nuke a hurricane, back in like 2017? After someone told him that just changing the expected course with an expo market on a map doesn't actually do anything?

That's like first-grader logic and problem solving right there. I don't even know if it is true but the fact that it could be tells you everything you need to know about his mental capacity...

[–] Asfalttikyntaja@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I’m not a psychiatrist but I can take a look.

From what I know of some people around me, I think Trump really is mentally ill. Those people usually can’t see what is reality to other people and they live in a reality what others can’t understand. We can make a jokes about his behavior and comments, but we have to understand that what he says and does is not a joke to him, it’s reality where he lives.

I agree that he is dumb and senile and all that, but he definitely is a mentally unstable and ill too. And this makes him and his cult very dangerous to not only the people of US, but also to all the world.

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago

His actions are more directed than he immediately appears. He receives political support for his seemingly inane actions, monetary support for his atrocities, stacks politics in his favor through debasement. He’s not politically savvy or crazy, he’s just willing to use the tools afforded to him in ways that most people would reasonably consider to be major violations by every conceivable definition.

He incarcerates and deports statistically oppositional citizens to prevent them from voting against him. He steals money because he’s certain no one will stop him. He sells the US to donors to maintain his base of support.

He’s not all there in the head, but is clear headed enough to seem somewhere between “he really shouldn’t be driving anymore” and “it’s good that he can still do his hobbies.”

TLDR: he’s just old, coddled, dumb, awful, and maneuvering politically in ways that benefit only him and like 60 other people. Still sane, for now

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

he was never as crazy as putin, or trump. Kim held on a leash by CHINA, XI.

[–] Bloodyhog@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Putin was and is not crazy, do not make this mistake. Vile, murderous, clinging to power, corrupt, immoral - all yes. Bit he is very rational in his own way. So is Kim, I think, but I do lack info here.

Trump, on the other hand, does look properly crazy now. And that is my last hope for this world, that he finally shows it in a clinical way and americans wake up before this is all over for us.

[–] Gorilladrums@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Vile, murderous, clinging to power, corrupt, immoral - all yes. Bit he is very rational in his own way.

There's a word to describe all this, it's evil.

[–] Bloodyhog@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Yes. But not crazy.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago
