This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.

No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.

We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

I'm still grateful that Blizzard did the Overwatch free weekend so I could determine for myself that it sucks ass.

[–] HollowNaught@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

I hatwcwhen guess try to add too many characters

Earlier on, it felt like I could competently play all characters and, when i saw another in the field, knew what to expect from them

Now, I feel like constantly learning new characters is a chore at best

Fuck whatever morons think dumb shit like this is acceptable:

I swear, everybody is such a goddamn sellout these days.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 1 points 7 hours ago

Why are they storing that content in a third party cookie?

Seems like their webmaster needs to update it.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 9 points 17 hours ago

This dumb shit isn't acceptable, and if I see something like this I just don't go to the website.

[–] enterpries@sh.itjust.works 7 points 20 hours ago

These look like generic Chinese-overwatch characters.

It is kinda hard to call yourself a sequel when you're basically the same exact game and literally the original game doesn't even exist anymore.

I do not like that I paid for Overwatch 1 but now only have Overwatch 2.

This is salt in the wound for my friends who miss launch Overwatch.

[–] ulkesh@piefed.social 54 points 1 day ago

I'm right there with you. I miss having 6v6 with like half the characters they have now (so I can actually learn them all), with Jeff Kaplan keeping me excited to play. What a fun time that was.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I'm right there with you. I think the hamster was the last new hero I played with.

Those were good times.

Now they're adding a cat with a jetpack, which I would love if they gave her a better name than Jetpack Cat.

"Jetpack cat"? Really? That desperate, huh?

[–] PrinceOfSloth@lemmy.zip 17 points 1 day ago (2 children)

why does this game ask for my phone no. to play?

[–] rigatti@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Because it's free to play and it's supposed to be a deterrent to smurfing.

[–] PrinceOfSloth@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

man, games are taken so seriously these days that they resort to smurfing.

[–] rigatti@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It's been that way for a long time. The term smurfing, I think, originated with Warcraft II.

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 3 points 19 hours ago

The games I played didn't have ranking. It was better.

[–] Holytimes@sh.itjust.works 5 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

It was an a****** dude that no one wanted to play against in high-ranking ladders because everyone knew his name because he was a f****** a******.

So he made two accounts. One called Papa Smurf and the other smurfette. Then proceeded to s*** on low-ranking. Players made fun of them and was he general a****** till everyone learned those names and started avoiding him as well.

Smurfing since its inception has been fundamentally something only assholes do where this whole purpose of being an a******.

Ranked systems only work if everybody only has one account. It's also why most games restrict you to only one account for ranked purposes.

If you can't be assed to cuss, stop using the words. All you are doing is making it harder to read what you are saying, and making yourself look like a child who will get in trouble for cussing. We aren't on YouTube or whatever, you won't have your content surpressed because you offended the advertisers delicate sensabilities.

Sorry, that rant was only half directed at you. I'm just frustrated at a world where using bad words is considered worse than literal nazi shit.

[–] imetators@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 21 hours ago

Smurfing was probably a side-effect. I remember their main reasoning was to ban people who trash talk in voice comms/chat so they cant just create new account using same number.

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Activision does that with all their games now.

It’s the reason I won’t buy a new COD game.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@piefed.world 37 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

I gave up on this game a long time ago. It took me longer than it should've to realize that "old Blizzard" is gone and not coming back.

[–] Shanmugha@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago

Years for me. I spent years before realizing that I'm never getting a good matchmaker

[–] magiccupcake@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (5 children)

I took a long break from overwatch after the release of overwatch 2, but they have been made some big changes that have brought me back.

No more heros locked behind battle passes, free loot boxes, 6v6, great performance, sound design and the new perk system is nice. The game is more balanced than it ever was as overwatch 1, even it it's still not perfect.

I don't agree with everything, paid skins are absurdly expensive, and heros do seem designed to sell skins, but that's really not new either.

Still dead to me.

[–] justsquigglez@leminal.space 22 points 1 day ago

I think I actually took psychic damage reading that. Just... why.

[–] vogi@piefed.social 19 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Overwatch is close to being a decade old btw.

It’s so unfortunate what they did to Overwatch, wonder how Jeff Kaplan and the original Team feels about all that.

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

IIRC he just washed his hands and moved on from it, which probably was the right call given the Acti-Blizz merger and Microsoft buyout.

[–] Sineljora@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago

I laughed out loud at Overwatch x Hello Kitty and Friends.

[–] yeather@lemmy.ca 2 points 17 hours ago

Pochacco my beloved

[–] actualaccount@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 day ago

No thanks. I have 1000 hours in OW, but I've moved on.

[–] ZoteTheMighty@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

There used to be an r/EmreMains when the name first appeared in lore. That must have been almost 5 years ago, and now they've finally released the hero. I don't know what they expected, but I'd figure that almost everyone who was there previously has moved on, I certainly have.
