Oliver Tambo, born on this day in 1917, was a South African anti-apartheid politician and revolutionary who served as President of the African National Congress (ANC) from 1967 to 1991.

In 1943, Tambo, along with Nelson Mandela and Walter Sisulu, founded the ANC Youth League, with Tambo becoming its first National Secretary and a member of the National Executive in 1948. The Youth League proposed a change in the tactics of the anti-apartheid movement, advocating boycotts, civil disobedience, strikes, and non-collaboration.

In 1960, Tambo fled South Africa due to political persecution, living in exile in north London for thirty years. From London, he supported and helped organize the ANC in the fight against apartheid from a distance. On December 13th, 1990, Tambo returned to South Africa and was elected National Chairperson of the ANC.

Hearing reports that there is a secret hamas base under the pentagon and white house

I highly recommend White Supremacy Confronted by Gerald Horne (his best book), especially if you want to learn more about figures like Oliver Tambo and the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa and the United States:

Youtube keeps auto-queueing a shitass Tenacious D acoustic cover of Wicked Game after every video I watch, which feels like a joke I would make if anyone let me put stuff on playlists anymore, except it's much less funny when it's being done to me

Watched my favorite streamer Barry (Kramer, formerly the editor for GameGrumps) play Slay the Princess last night. He's good friends with the VA for the princess (she does such a good job! She streams under NicholeGoodnight I watch her sometimes and love her emotes. She has appeared on GDQ as well). It seems really cool! I'd probably be too overwhelmed to play it myself because all the endings and permutations on what you can do would be very overwhelming to me as a completionist. But it was interesting to watch someone do a playthrough. The philosophy in it is pretty surface level from what I saw but thats ok because the main engagement seems to be the in depth choice making.

Looking at the different admins on the homepage, a lot of them seem to have gone offline roughly two months ago and haven't been heard from since. What's that about?

Where are you keeping KiraNerys? rage-cry

Everything changes when it's for survival

Why can I wake up after 6 hours of sleep everyday to commute 3 hrs total to work 9 hours yet haven't been able to not procrastinate long enough to make a few phone calls for very important doctor appointments for months

Is it really that unusual for people to not drink at all nor smoke tobacco or weed?

I mean this is in reaction to a twitter post so its not reacting to a real life sentiment exactly but its still a little strange seeing the two sides being "wow these people are badasses just rawdogging reality" vs "wow these freaks are just fine sober?"

Just kinda strange, for medical reasons I cant drink, tobacco smoke gives me splitting headaches and weed just didnt do anything for me the time I tried it, so I guess Im one of these badass freaks by process of elimination.

[–] American_Badass@hexbear.net 12 points 2 years ago

Total abstinence, yeah, it's probably a little strange. I know plenty of non smokers who drink rarely, but I don't know many people who never drink at all.

Really the people I know who fit this are sober, meaning like conscious choice after alcohol abuse.

In Western societies at least it's genuinely a small minority I'm pretty sure.

When was the last time a mass shooter eluded capture for this long? I guess the Boston bomber I'd you expand it from "shooting" to "killing"?

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 13 points 2 years ago

dorner ?

I can't remember. Mostly they die or get captured at the scene. I don't think a lot of them have an escape plan.

Even if Christianity is correct and there is a hell, I find eternal hellfire more appealing than a lifetime of subjugation to the American fundamentalist crowd and their ilk.

Woke up at around 1 am, tried to fall back asleep but ended up waking up a second time at around 3 am. agony-wholesome

I can not remember a night in the recent past where I didn't wake up at least once in the middle of the night, I wish I could just sleep a full 8 hours straight but I never can.
