Roberts resigned as DeRidder’s mayor one day after authorities began investigating a complaint that she had raped a minor. Her resignation letter omitted any mention of that investigation.

She later made $75,000 bail to await her trial from out of custody.

Misty Roberts in 2018 made history by becoming the first woman ever elected as mayor of DeRidder. She won a second four-year term in 2022.

I'm impressed it was actually called rape in the headline.

She doesn't identify as a republican so they can call it what it is.

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not a man. Not a Republican.

Which is one of the reasons it's "newsworthy"

As gross as that is.

[–] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

That's a good point.

I'd just like to point out that they used the correct term "rape" here. All to often news outlets will say something like "sex" or "affair" or some how blame the victim.

Kudos for calling a spade a spade.

It is wild cuz even Margerie Taylor Greens broken ass clock is right more often than the media

[–] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Some of the coverage here in the states referred to her as "glamorous," and she was facing "allegations of indecency," so they're definitely some apologia going on.

I wouldn't doubt it, but this particular publication didn't do that which is why I gave them the slightest amount of praise

It is surprising, given how often this exact thing is poopoo'ed away; "She's pretty, and what 16yo boy wouldn't want to!?1?"

yeah but nice. nice. nice.

In October, in an unrelated case, her 40-year-old brother, Brandon Lee Roberts, pleaded guilty to raping two people: an underage girl and a young woman. He subsequently received a 42-year prison sentence.

Nice family.

Definitely gives the impression of one of those "abused becomes the abuser" situations.

They were both intoxicated, him so much so that he said he threw up before she raped him.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah, that does kind of make it worse. She was the adult at her home.

[–] nocturne@slrpnk.net 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Her kids (maybe just her son) and her nephew caught her and started fighting with her about what she was doing and she still continued.

[–] calliope@piefed.blahaj.zone 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Every detail is crazier than the last.

Her ex-husband testified that she asked him

“to call the victim’s family on her behalf to gauge their reaction. He said he did so.”

How did that go? “Hey so I heard my wife fucked your son, huh? How you feeling?”

[–] nocturne@slrpnk.net 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

She door dashed plan b the next morning. The victim's mother contacted her about pregnancy concerns.

[–] calliope@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I saw that!!

The door dash driver was like “I heard about the teenager thing and I was like… oooh.” And I think it said they recognized the house from Halloween or something.

And then the son still saying essentially “it sure looked like sex to me” during testimony. Holy crap, it’s wild

[–] nocturne@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 week ago

This whole thing reads like an 80s teen movie.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

and her brother is in jail for 42 years on multiple rape counts.

[–] nocturne@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 week ago

One was a minor too. As mentioned elsewhere in this post, I have a feeling there was some abuse happening to the two as kids.

Oh my god I'm the same age cohort as this woman, the thought of voluntarily spending time with 16 year old boys not related to me is fucking gross. We are grandparent age, you sick woman!

[–] phdepressed@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I wouldn't say 40s is grandparent age for most...

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

not according to 939,000 Pornhub MILF videos...

It is when you start having kids in high school. My aunt became a grandmother at 36. If she'd lived longer she would have been a great grandmother in her 50s.

Panicked texts female mayor, 43, blasted out to family, friends and locals after she was allegedly caught having sex with boy, 16, by her own teenage son at pool party

'So no protection? Are you on birth control, have you had tubal, hysterectomy??', the boy's mother asked, according to the papers.

'Birth control. But, it also didn't reach that point in those few minutes to have that concern. I understand the concern, but I can assure you of that', Roberts allegedly said.

[–] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

I don't know that being the first of a minority group elected in a town of <10k people is really "making history". It's good news, certainly.

[–] Kowowow@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

I never thought about what they are up to but seeing the canfor logo there might be something I need to look into
