I think it's time to put a rest to the Bagent QB1 talk. He is a decent backup and game manager but the talent JF1 has puts Bagent to rest. Again, I like Bagent as a long-term backup but by no means is he our QB1 of the present of future

Bagent may not be a qb1 but he still runs the offense better then Fields.

[–] _Fun_At_Parties@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Honestly aside from the first interception what was so bad about him? No, he doesn't look super special, but (as most bears QBs always seem to have to deal with), he had a couple of big plays taken away from him, by bad drops, and referees not giving us the benefit of the doubt. Bagent wasn't the one that called 3 straight runs after a big 20 yard completion, he's not the one that dropped those passes that lost us possession and 6 points, he's not the guy that called a fake handoff while having Whitehair blocking Bosa. This team has blame to pass around for this performance and very little of it should be pointed at him

Jf1 hasnt shown any more “talent” than bagent at this point

[–] DeansFrenchOnion1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

that's an absolutely absurd take lmao

[–] throwaway-anon-1600@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Just because he runs fast doesn’t mean he’s talented for the nfl. Y’all just like to suck OSU dick and assume that the D-2 player is worse. Bagent looks significantly more talented than fields in the nfl.

[–] lingley@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If you compared Fields and Bagent’s first two starts they are pretty comparable.

They both went 1-1 and Bagent actually has better stats I’d say

Fields had 17 completions on 37 attempts for 277 yards. 0 Td 1 Int 1 Fumble Ran 6 times and gained 21 yards on the ground. He got sacked 10 times for loss of 91 yards.

Bagent had 46 completions on 66 attempts for 395 yards. 1 Td 2 Int 0 Fumbles Ran 5 times for 28 yards and a touchdown. He got sacked 2 times for a loss of 12 yards.

[–] zachj3488@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

We need a new qb altogether. We will get stuck in purgatory with fields that why I’d prefer we give bagent a chance for the rest of the season.

[–] PantPain77_77@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Bagent had better protection last week, that’s for sure.

[–] VexReloaded@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Bustin is still 6 for 25.

Bagent has played 3 games.

Jury is by far still out on Bagent. But Fields’ history of suckage is enough to say he sucks.

[–] bearsguy2020@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I liked what I saw from Bagent but he didn’t look like a top 30 NFL QB.

His motion might be slow but I like his touch. He missed some high. He made some bad judgement calls.

He played like a rookie but there were highlights. If he cleans up his motion a little and settles down he could be good. Waaaay to early to say anything else.

[–] rugbysecondrow@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This. He played like an NFL rookie. His numbers are on par with what Young and Stroud have been producing.

[–] areyoume29@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Fields is getting traded for defensive help but Tuesday. No point keeping the nfl's worst qb around. The worst thing for the bears that could happen is a Daniel Jones situation. Just trade him to Washington this week so it doesn't happen. I'll take chase young over fields and let bagent play us into a top 5 selection.

[–] TLEH-IV@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think watching Bagent play on the same team does highlight a lot of the things that Justin does poorly that makes the team lose and him do poorly.

  1. Extremely bad footwork. Justin has incredibly slow drop back and catch and throw. You watch Bagent run quick screens against LV and its night and day. Catch throw. Justin takes FOREVER. Its not even like Bagent is that quick.. Its just Justin is that slow.
  2. Doesn't keep his eyes down field/has major happy feet in the pocket.

Bagent playing behind the same OL Fields was playing behind. Bagent does a much better job navigating the pocket and getting the ball out on time.

[–] Nutaholic@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Neither of them are the answer. It's time to move on at the end of the season. Hopefully fields is still worth something in a trade.

[–] jsnhbe1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

for who. i dont want an entitled, immature, recently exposed kid anywhere near this team

[–] Johnny_Royale@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Bagent sill better than Cade Mcnown tho 😂

[–] duhbears23@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think with NFL experience and the correct situation (NOT OUT TRASH COACHING) he could be an admirable starter

[–] rugbysecondrow@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Three rookies who started today...now tell me why Bagent should be a backup while the other two should be starters?

Stroud 16/24 140 yards 1 TD

Young 22/31 225 1 TD

Bagent 25/37 232 1 TD

Bagent played alright. His team didn't help him out tonight, dropping TD pass, causing one of his INT, drive killing penalties and a defense that made Herbert look like a HOF qb. Bagent is just as good as any of the other rookie QBs starting this year, but weirdly prefer to hold him to a higher standard .

[–] Neon_Deion64@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

You’re pulling stats from one game and acting like this proves Bagent is on par with those two guys. Check the rest of Stroud’s game logs and tell me him and Bagent should remotely be in the same discussion as him

[–] rugbysecondrow@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

bagents only played two games, so there isn't a lot to compare

[–] Neon_Deion64@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Agreed, there isn’t much to compare, so let’s not say the UDFA is as good as the first and second ovr picks based on one game.

You literally said “Bagent is just as good as any of the other rookie QBs starting this year.” How do you make that (untrue) assumption based on two starts? Such a small sample size

[–] rugbysecondrow@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Context man. I am responding to the OP who claimed he is not a QB1 and only a backup.

The two games we have, so far, are on par with the other rookies drafted and playing this year.

There isn't enough to say he should be a starter but not to say he should be only a backup either.

[–] icymintrooster@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

But.. our team sucks either way. We’d have an abysmal defense

[–] greatwhitenorth2022@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Bagent doesn't look confused or overwhelmed. I'm somewhat impressed with the way he plays given this was only his second start.

Fields running was electric last season. He throws a great long ball when the 0-line protects him long enough for the play to develop.

I hope that Fields learns something from watching Bagent and finishes the season strong. Bagent could be a quality backup if Fields gets dinged up.

[–] FaithfulBarnabas@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They are down multiple scores most of the game and they continue to dink and dunk and run the ball a lot. It is like they didn’t want to win the game at all. You have to start rushing and going for chunk plays, deep balls to come back but they didn’t. I expected against Herbert we would find ourselves in a much less comfortable position than last week and trailing. I expected thus we would get a better evaluation, with Bagent pressed to push the ball deep and due to time not able to rely on running the ball as much. Instead we played the same as last week, as if with a lead the whole game

[–] happyfave@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Who the fuck was taking about him being QB1. Where did this fake narrative come from.

[–] jrutz@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If we could frankenstein Bagent's game management, pocket presence and decision making with Fields' athleticism, we might finally have a good QB.

[–] fivemagicks@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think what is interesting with a majority of the NFL fanbase, not just the Bears, is that they think a backup QB shouldn't be able to come in and win football games. Lots of these backup QBs were drafted for a reason - they have / had NFL talent.

This is a similar situation to last year when Dak Prescott went down for the Cowboys and Cooper Rush came in and kept their season alive by winning 4 games in a row (I live in Dallas). Ultimately, Rush got his first loss at the Eagles in a close game. A lot of Cowboys fans were calling for Rush to start, which was just ridiculous to me. Prescott was / is a much better player than Cooper Rush - not taking away from keeping their season alive, mind you. But just because a backup comes in and looks good, that doesn't make him the QB1.

TLDR: your backup QB should be able to win games for your team. They, too, are a professional football player.

[–] lilbearpie@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

52 yrs ago Cincinnati drafted Kenny Anderson out of division 3 Augustana College

[–] BurgerBob1010@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It’s cooper rush all over again. The backup qb had a few great games, and then off of a small sample size some fans decided that was enough to want him over Dak

[–] Low_Yogurtcloset8345@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Guys I'm really liking Bagent

[–] Simple_Award3750@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

All u goofy people Fields is 6 & 25 let that Shit sink in Clowns 🤡

[–] Saddamjong@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Its funny because fields isn’t a QB1 either

[–] rhj2020@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He does things that unfortunately Justin probably won’t ever be able to do, feel the rush, get rid of the ball. While I don’t think Bagent is a star he definitely can get better. But I think our future starting quarterback is in college right now. Justin is just too inconsistent and doesn’t process fast enough. I don’t think he can get better at that. While our coaching staff sucks, it might be time to say so does Justin. That hurts me, I literally bought 6 jerseys of his for my family and put all my hopes he would finally be the guy. He’s not. Poles is also not the GM that will fix this. He had a horrible offseason in retrospect. Besides the trade, and Wright pick, everything else has been blah.

[–] OkayOpenTheGame@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

"Fields just needs more time, we need to let him develop so we can find out if he's the guy."

"We've seen enough from Bagent after two games, he is nothing but a career backup."

Make it make sense

[–] livingvikariously@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Bagent’s two games coincided with the OLine coming together nicely.

Justin never had that (or good wide receivers) in his three seasons until recently. Perspective.

[–] Limp_Profile676@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

i knew he wasn’t ready yeah he beat the weak ass raiders but i knew once he played a more talented defense like the chargers he was going to struggle and i’m not saying this to hate on him but he’s just not ready and it’s time for Justin to cook

[–] obi-1-jacoby@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Was watching the game last night and thought it was interesting how Chris Collinsworth kept saying how much Fields could learn from Bagent, a rookie.

Bagent holds himself with good composure, does not panic, gets the ball out quickly, and manages the game well. From what little I’ve seen of him, he also has a natural ability to read the defense. These are all the areas Fields struggles in.

However, Fields is just way more talented. He’s our starter, Bagent is our QB2, and there’s no question about it. I like Bagent a lot and love his story, but he missed some pretty easy throws and doesn’t have near the athletic ability as Justin.

Hopefully Fields learned a thing or two from staying involved and watching Tyson from the sidelines and we can see some of that mental game transition over. He’s got half a season left to save his career. Let’s wish him the best and see what happens. Bear tf down

[–] jaceved92@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Bagent > Fields

Trubiskyites vs Folesies - only the names have been changed to protect the Front Office.

[–] Aware_Style1181@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He’s the developmental QB we needed.
