Remember when Everyone said the m3 pro was not going to come out until late next year, and there was no way it was possible. I member.

M3 memory bandwidth is a downgrade from M2.

[–] DARK-SPIRIT@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I was expecting much more 😅

I thought that we will get the dynamic island, a new design, and maybe even wifi 7, or something unique... I guess Apple didn't have a good year and decided to get rid of all the chassis, by just replacing the chips, etc... no one needs extra 100nits SDR brightness, it's already good enough on my M2 Max 16" Macbook Pro.

I find it weird that now the memory bandwidth is 50GB/s less than the last M2 Pro models.

30 minute informercial in what could of just been a press release.

fully loaded 16" MacBook Pro now costs $7,200:

• Apple M3 Max chip with 16‑core CPU, 40‑core GPU • 128GB of unified memory • 8TB SSD storage

It seems strange that the M3 iMac is only 4x the performance of the last Intel iMac, I would have assumed it'd be 8-10x at least

[–] caillouminati@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

What does everyone think of getting a Macbook with M2 Max versus M3 Pro? It looks like they'd be a comparable price now, but I can't tell what the differences are through all the buzzwords.

M3 Max is very impressive. Going to 16 core with 12 high performance cores was huge. Should score over 20,000 on geek bench which is more than any PC laptop chip on the market while using a fraction of the power in silence. The M1 Max was around 12,000.

Let's give it a year to see if they infringed on anyone patent with their items;)

[–] FakNugget92@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Overpriced.

[–] not_some_username@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Is Dynamic the new Quantum ?

[–] peesinthepool@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

“Apple attempts a mid cycle refresh after alarmingly disappointing sales of their laptop line.” Really disappointed with this announcement.

[–] KnowGrowGlow@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Lol still can’t play decent games on it. Pass

[–] S3er0i9ng0@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This even was pretty disappointing. The cpu performance uplift is so small it reminds me of the intel 14nm++++++ days. The GPU performance uplift is ok but it still probably can’t hold a candle to dedicated gpus. The price of ram and storage is insane still even more so now that you can get high end 96gb ddr5 ram for around $350 on the pc diy market.

Was considering upgrading from the M1 Max but I’m just going to go back to a pc build.

[–] MarioKessa@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What is the significance of 2 less performance cores and reduced memory bandwidth in real world usage for the M3 Pro?

I noticed that the infographic for M3 Pro during the presentation states 20% faster than M1, not M2. Perhaps the M3 Pro doesn't have a big increase in processing power over M2 Pro.

[–] Civil-Detective62@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Love ya! Why can't they just get people to return their mbps and have the new innards swapped out? It's the same ugly chassis right same display same ports ???? Why do they keep saying recycled when that makes more carbon in the atmosphere, how do they expect to reach their so called imaginary goal ? Is it too fantastical to suggest what I suggested to just swap out all the innards in an otherwise sake chassis as the M1's?

I am thinking about finally upgrading from the MacBook Pro 13inch (2017 with touchbar). I really just need the M3, but damn the space black on the M3 pro looks good.

[–] darkknight32@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Is the M3 max really that big of an improvement over the M2 Max? I just got an M2 Max refurbed over the summer and am already considering trading it in to grab one.

[–] Superbuddhapunk@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No iPad mini 7? :(

[–] WARCODE-UI@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Apple being so revolutionary that they managed to do the impossible and make an "Alloy" that's 100% recycled Aluminium.

[–] KrassomatXD@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Did they actually lower the base RAM in the """Pro""" Models? Thats embarsassing

[–] 6112115@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Currently have an m2 MacBook Pro 16” on order (ordered just before the event was announced).

Still going with it. Is that too conservative?

Deciding between the M3 Pro and M3 Max... Would it be excessive to get the Max if I don't do much video editing? I intend to edit vlogs and whatnot, but not anything intense.

I plan to make a lot of music on it. Would that be a good reason to go for the Max or would it still be too much?

still no new 27" imac.

24" too small, and I dont want to buy a mac mini or studio...

[–] shivaswrath@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

as an Intel guy...can't wait for this.

My post processing has been ass slow for years but I tolerated it. Wooohoooo

[–] Knips-o-mat@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

My 4 year old Sony 1 phone also has 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage. And an OLED screen with a higher resolution than the Mac Pro.

[–] MyDadIsYourDad@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This could've been an email

[–] chienvn311@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I can ignore 8gb of Ram in 2023, but they could not even dare to compare M3 to M2 is a big red flag for me. I’ll stick with M1 until M4.

[–] Cartman9@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

can i run OBS Studio in this macbook pro w M3 Max as the streaming laptop for a dual pc twitch streaming setup? other is a gaming windows pc

[–] vmachiel@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

So the Pro chip has fewer P cores and more E cores AND less memory bandwidth than the M2 Pro.. weird

[–] kushpeshin@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Trying to understand what’s the point of the 15” MacBook Air given its only £100 cheaper than the base 14” Pro.

They really should have discounted the M1 MacBook Air

[–] 00DEADBEEF@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Have Apple deliberately nerfed M3 Pro?

From Apple's slides:

M3 = 35% faster CPU than M1; 20% faster than M2

M3 Pro = 20% faster CPU than M1 Pro; ??% faster than M2 Pro - No comparison shown, I wonder why?

M3 Max = 80% faster than M1 Max; 50% faster than M2 Max

When Apple announced the M2 Pro they claimed it was 20% faster than M1 Pro. So are we to assume M3 Pro has no performance improvement this gen?

They've reduced the number of performance cores from eight to six, and memory bandwidth at 150GB/sec is lower than the 200GB/sec of the M1 Pro.

[–] aydam4@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

of course it's called fucking dynamic caching

it's actually not bad, like it does what it says it does, but it sounds so dumb

[–] pmoO0@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The whole „RAM on a chip“ and everything is as you buy it makes me never buy any of the Mx Mac series ever again. Also, the soldered SSD‘s. I know it’s nearly 2024. but since 2014, when they glued everything in, Apple is no longer a serious option for me. Of course I own an iPhone and a really old iPad. But paying for these Macs is not viable.
