I know we are rebuilding but at some point you have to pay the talent man. Letting JJ walk is a horrible mistake.

[–] OGChrisB@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think I need a secondary team to root for while the Bears continue to suck ass. Dolphins head coach has a good story. Might root for them this year.

So tired of watching a horrible on field product year after year. I’m starting to lose hope that this organization will ever figure it out.

I’ve been in the camp of Poles only making 2 real mistakes as GM and that was the Claypool trade and hiring Eberflus. I can understand the headspace of being a new GM and listening to advisors on Eberflus and trying to get JF1 some help when we had 0 receivers but if he lets JJ walk that’s inexcusable. At some point you have to reward players and not just be in a constant state of rebuild.

I cannot understand everyone just assuming Poles is to blame if JJ gets traded. 50% of a negotiation is the player, and we have no idea what Jaylon is asking for that Poles is saying no to.
I’m not saying it’s not Poles’ fault, but there’s a lot of assumptions being made.

If Jaylon is demanding a market-setting contract, everyone is ok with Poles driving a dump truck full of cash up to Jaylon’s front door? I’m not. We’ve seen what happens when we have an undisciplined moron at GM.

The other side of this is that he's homegrown talent, has expressed a desire to be here (until now, apparently), and is a great corner. If we're not going to pay him, what's the incentive for others to stick around? This team is flush with cash and does not need to create any more holes. You'd essentially be banking on one of these young corners panning out and/or signing an additional corner for potentially not much less than what he gets (see: Roquan).

I get not being wild with spending - but he's a great talent and shipping him off just creates another hole on a team filled with needs, all for what? Some mid-round picks?

I think a LOT of GMs and organizations would LOVE to swap places with the Bears right now fwiw.

[–] BlueDwarven@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I’d love for us to just once have a GM who had an ass load of cap space and draft picks and didn’t royally fuck up on the daily.

[–] Movieguy70@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I dont think fans realize just how gutted this team was after tearing down the Pace team.

[–] I_MARRIED_A_THORAX@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Working 1 to 8 am sucks ass dude

[–] raidertycoon97@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’m sure this will be a very positive chat

[–] whatever12347@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Somehow the Eagles are gonna end up getting Johnson for like a 3rd and it's gonna suck.

[–] Xmarker25@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Or a division rival. Hopefully Poles isn’t dumb enough to trade within the division.

[–] MaximumMasterpiece22@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Plan for the day :

  1. Waiting for deadline
  2. Celebrate
[–] I_MARRIED_A_THORAX@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Sounds like a solid plan

[–] pleasedontbingme@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Is it finally okay to criticize Poles or is trading our best young defender in the 2nd year of a rebuild still too early?

[–] paul_kinsey@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Has the trade happened?

[–] Standard_Employee751@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

No he hasn’t had enough time we need to give him 2 more HCs

[–] pleasedontbingme@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He should be allowed to have 3-4 1st overall picks before we can really judge him.

[–] BlueDwarven@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Calling it now. Our next head coach is going to be Frank Smith. He’s 42, the Dolphins OC, and was the Bears TE coach from 2015 to 2017. This will initially seem like a great hire because he’s young, he’s an offensive minded guy, and he’s coming out of the Mike McDaniel offense. However, he’s never had to call his own offense and probably isn’t ready to be a HC yet. He’s only in his second year as an OC under a genius who calls his own offense. He’s a TE and OL coach by trade. He will fucking fail royally and we’ll be in the exact same spot in like 3 years. This is what the McCaskeys do. They get so close to getting things right and then just left turn off a fucking cliff.

This Tracks!

[–] coydog33@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Just waiting for the daily barrage of idiots using the terms “cultist”, “truther” and “stans”.

[–] I_MARRIED_A_THORAX@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

GTFO cultist truther stan 🤪

[–] maybe_just_happy_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

time for poles to crack the piggy bank and pay JJ go get Sweat before someone else does. Look at getting Burns or Hunter in as another LB

also time to change defensive scheme - 4-3 isn't working with a shit line. Go to 3-4 pick up an end and LB so we can play faster. It's a front four can't create pressure on their own change the scheme

[–] BR1M570N3@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I mean, what else could possibly go wrong? (Later) Oh.

[–] madrefookaire@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Fuck this team

[–] The_Haskins@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Anyone who defends Ryan Poles at this point after refusing to extend either Roquan or Jaylon at this point despite their level of play and our HEAPS fo cap space? I don't know what the fuck to tell you.

[–] apc961@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Roquan I can somewhat understand, ILB isn't a huge priority in today's NFL so that is potential money you can put to higher priority positions...like CB 😅.

Idk how you trade away a young proven corner just hitting his prime when your other DBs include Stevenson and Elijah Hicks, along with Eddie "Foot - DNP" Jackson.

[–] hippohopper78@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

But that’s why it’s even more infuriating. If ILB wasn’t a priority, why did we sign Edmunds?

[–] Standard_Employee751@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

As much as I like JJ this wouldn’t even be in the top 5 of worst Poles moves. I’d be happy with a late first for him.

That’s not a defense of trading him, it will still hurt. But some of y’all just haven’t been paying attention to the disaster he’s turned the Bears into.

[–] OhItsOkNO@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Can I say F Poles or it’s too early ?

[–] BlueDwarven@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

“It’S sTiLL tOo EarLy tO jUdGe PoLeS!!!”

[–] SurferSting84@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If Poles pulls off a late 1st round pick for Jaylon are you changing your mind about this? I mean a 1st round pick for a never has been pro bowler

[–] llanthas@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Are we not gonna talk about our head coach crying on the sideline?

[–] patrick_e@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I saw that. I think it was sweat.

[–] llanthas@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No way man. Jaw working, eyes squinted into the distance. Dude was weeping.

[–] 21-hydroxylase@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Chase Young to the 49ers for a 3rd is painful. Idk what to say lol.

[–] dynastyalt@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This may be a dumb question but I genuinely think there is answer I am unaware of. Why would the bears trade a second for sweat when they could just pay him next offseason? They’re going to have to pay him next season anyways? Is there a premium they can offer him if he’s already on the team?

[–] secondsawayfromchaos@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

literally came here when josh mcdaniels just got fired thinking eberflus had the same fate. FIRE THIS STAFF NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

[–] MisterFrisbee@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Who's a better tanker: Ihmir Smith-Marsette or Velus Jones Jr?

[–] ACAB_FOR_CUTIE_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Spiegel is cool but I'm not a fan of Danny Parkins. He rarely has anything insightful to say and his personality is bland as hell.

[–] FortuneBull@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

People are getting way too worked up over this shit. Why not let things play out? We have 2 1sts next year. We’re not even sure if Sweat won’t sign an extension. Just slow your roll until all the doomsday scenarios you made up in your head happen.
