General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

It's nice to see the wicked get punished every now and then. It gives me some hope.

even if he's diverse, he could be repairing the damage he puked onto the planet

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 1 points 1 week ago

He’s not diverse - he’s a dickhead.

Again we have the UK to thank for stopping Nazis.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 30 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Well, well, if it isn't the consequences of his terrible choices.

Doesn't matter tho. He still has plenty of fans willing to fork over hundreds of dollars to "separate the art from the artist." Maybe people should stop doing that?

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

When you stop separating the art from the artist you have to blacklist a lot of them. Many of them are incomplete human beings with terrible personality traits.

Since we're on Lemmy, anyone who selects artists by the adherence to their own morals will be left with about three names total.

(Which is not to say that I defend West, of course: he can be shot for all I care, because I don't give a shit about rappers, almost all of them suck.)

They couldn’t just get a new headline act?

[–] ramble81@lemmy.zip 28 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

The sheer fact he was the “headline” to began with was sad.

It's likely that most acts decent enough to headline are already fully booked for the summer.

[–] addie@feddit.uk 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Standard operating practice would just be to move everyone else up a slot, and book some 'up and coming' band to fill the very early slot that's left vacant. Glastonbury managed to shuffle people between days when they lost their headliners a few years ago, depends who's free and who's got other bookings.

Looks like they had West headlining all three days, and I can't find anything about who else was due to play - Drake, maybe? The 2026 festival looks like a scam, how little detail there is about it.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 2 points 2 weeks ago

Glastonbury is about as non-standard as it gets.

[–] towerful@programming.dev 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Well the point is that he should never have been the headline to start with.
And now all the sponsors have pulled out, because they don't want to be associated with a festival that is promoting a person like Kanye.

I imagine there's a clause in the contract that he gets paid in full if they cancel him, but only a small %age if they cancel the whole thing.

[–] Eyekaytee@aussie.zone 17 points 2 weeks ago

great news!

I wish they did the same for Nigel Farage

[–] WolfmanEightySix@piefed.social 4 points 2 weeks ago

Was the Wireless Festival a bit shit, or something?

[–] Evotech@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

The only reason they rejected him is not because of who he is but because people promised to create chaos and demonstrations

[–] Anarki_@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago

Hahahahahaha
