Stripped more of those fucking shit fucks than any other type
Yeah but they go great in an Allan key when it's rounded out
Absolutely true.
I had to remove a door panel of a VW like 15 years ago and now I have two of these weird fucking things that serve literally no other purpose
I read it as Alien key, and it kind of looks like a Xenomorph…
I got that too.
Now I kind of want to see a chestburster scene Photoshop
5/32"? What in the washing machines per football pitch kind of archaic measuring system is that?
It gets worse because we also use metric depending on what it's used in, such as bicycles. As an American I really just wish we'd ditch the us measurement system in general, but especially when it comes to parts.
Eh, I'm an Australian who works with old British machinery, so I'm used to thinking in Imperial too. You'll never get away from it, not in our lifetimes.
Yeah, but bit by bit we can make imperial obscure traditional knowledge only used in Myanmar and Liberia, unless they want in on this metric shit.
Anyways I'm going to go patriotically metricate because it pisses everyone off when I say that my country's founding fathers intended for us to use metric
It's a fraction dude. I promise it won't hurt you
Nearly 4mm I think, but still looks like magic numbers to me.
Side note, I am watching this American guy on YouTube renovate his house, and when ever he talks measurements, it completely goes over my head, cause I can't even begin to visualise the numbers in my head.
There are oodles of equivalence charts out there for sae and mm. Practically have to have one if you frequently run into imperial measurements
Indeed where everyone is free not just the men
Freedom units
Femdom units
If the tool 1) accomplishes the task and 2) doesn’t fuck up what you’re using it on, it’s the right tool.
Those pliers will absolutely fuck up a screw that uses a 4mm allen.
Just the outside. Inside will still work for the Allen you don't have.
My mentality
I draw inspiration from my boss, who is way more resourceful than he gives himself credit for. If our project manager comes out and says we need to figure out how to degoombulate a whatsit, he will (after ten minutes of bitching) go into his junk drawer of rods, shims, and c clamps, and fashion together the best damn whatsit degoombulator you ever saw.
Nope, my hammer says you're a 4mm now.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who bashes allen keys in until they work
I often use a slightly oversized torque bit to bite in the bolt when hammered in.
Yup. I use a 40 etorx in rusty 6mm hex all the time.
All tools are hammers if you try hard enough.
This was literally me on Saturday.
am i weird to read it as alien key?
Aren’t these are literally called thumb screws? Like if you need a tool for them maybe you’re over torquing them?
Nah that pic is a socket head cap screw. Heavy duty should be real tight. These are a couple examples of thumb screws

Just use some paper towel or something to keep the teeth from fucking shit up and you're good to go.
I thought you were going to say just put a paper towel around a 1/4" key, haha
Also I use a rubber band if I have to use monkey wrench., (or really I just stick it in the bottom of my tshirt if it just needs to be loosened)
The more you munge the outside the better the grip for the wrench teeth.
Just serviced my transmission. The 5mm Allen fill plug/bolt had degraded over 125,000 miles, and I had to use locking pliers to get it off.
Overall, I replaced the fill bolt and everything went well. Seeing this post after the fact is a funny coincidence!
Oh I love a good bolt plug.
metric will save us.
Meme still holds up if instead of 5/32s its 6mm
Great band

Not a Imbus?
Still lose fewer allen wrenches than 10mm sockets. I swear the companies that make them have some sort of magic that causes them to disappear after a year.
I have a metric, standard, and star key folding sets like these that Ive managed to keep for 30 years without losing. They work in 95% of situations and keep me from losing the loose ones I accumulate along the way for when I need those.

I don't know how I did it, but I lost a giant one of those. It was for metric hexes from ~1.5-7, and it had this lovely design that made it really easy to turn (not so easy to fit it in tight spots, but it wasn't the biggest deal). Like, how do you lose a tool the size of your hand? Grumble grumble.
No channel locks eh?
I have many 5/32 allen keys. Maybe too many.
Agreed. I don't know if I've ever needed them
More like broken.
