Probably could have been more concise, but I understood what he said. I think it’s just more apparent that sports coverage has become the most caustic shit ever. Thanks Stephen A and Skip Bayless.

  • Listing Fields as Doubtful
  • Fields won't play
  • He could go through pregame workout
  • Fields has had no setbacks.

None of these items are mutually exclusive. They all can be true at the same time. You don't have to "backtrack" to say any of these things.

People need to learn words.

[–] Electrical_Log_1084@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That’s not true.

Saying “you might not play” and “you won’t play” are 2 different things.

They contradict each other

[–] UnitShot@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He literally said, "Yeah, he's not playing." Then said he was doubtful. Then he said right now he's out. He also said he was 51/49 on playing or not. Why do people on here try to defend this fucking idiot? The same guy who said the team culture is "awesome" after firing 2 coaches for HR reasons mid-season.

[–] Johnny_Royale@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The man is just a clunky public speaker. Top to bottom the entire organization is poor at it from George on down.

Tyson Bagent commands the podium better than the owner and coach!

[–] Bacchus1976@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Does this mean that Fields is going to dress and be on the active roster?

[–] urethral_sand@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He is certainly stupid for an NFL head coach but not because of this

[–] Pooppumper1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That’s typical coach speak. Well played, Flus

[–] Ricketier@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Why is flus such a pussy on the mic? He’s terrified of giving any info or hurting anyone’s feelings or honestly saying anything at all? Does he realize that giving away enough to sound like a real human would actually help fans sympathize with him?

[–] icehuck@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If you listened to the press conference, it was basically so fields can be a game time decision.

[–] juliuspepperwoodchi@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Been saying this since the whole "I don't know why DJ wasn't in on that play" situation at the beginning of the season. Time and time again, Flus proves he's out of his depth and completely incompetent.

[–] Melodic-Geologist532@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

So start Fields as my fan duel QB. Got it. Thanks Flus

[–] Hvz3727@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Just fire Flus already!!!

[–] No-Sir1776@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Standard corporate behavior.

[–] Puzzleheaded-Ear9487@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I ENCOURAGE YOU TO ACTUALLY GO LISTEN to what he said in the press conference rather than tweets about what he said. This tweet absolutely misrepresents the chronology of what Eberflus says. You may still think he's an idiot but it DID NOT go down like this. Pretty disappointing that this is the level of reporting.

I don't know who Josh Schrock is but I will absolutely be disregarding his posts based off how he laid this out.

There's the clip. I don't think the tweet misrepresents it at all. He says both that he's out because he's not medically cleared but he also may play lol. The reporters are clearly confused and ask multiple times for him to clarify.

[–] Puzzleheaded-Ear9487@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Got it, fair point. I'm maybe giving him too much benefit of the doubt but if you take away that leading question or interpret that question to be "he's not playing (under current circumstances)?" Which is how I interpreted it on first hear, I think it's coherent. Again this is the way real-time conversations work but apparently I'm giving him too much benefit of the doubt.

[–] RemingtonSnatch@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Chicago sports media are a bunch of blathering morons with the exception of maybe Laurence Holmes.

[–] BasedSliceOfWinning@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

When he was on the Vikings, wasn't Brett Favre out for a few days, and then on gameday he magically felt better and played against us? lol

[–] SpazzticZeal@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I don't think he's stupid. He just is a terrible media communicator. Doesn't mean he communicates like that with players and coaches.

[–] phishin3321@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I don't think he's stupid I just think he's not good with media and he trips over himself alot. He tries to be like "competitive" with news but then shoots himself in the foot lol.

Ultimately I think JF1 is out and Bagent is starting, and then he tried to say "maybe JF1 will play" to try to be sneaky...but it was too late lol.

[–] smile_drinkPepsi@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Can’t even get a “game time decision”

[–] Tall_Vegetable7905@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This seems like very typical HC talk for any team

[–] ojdidntdoit4@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

crazy how we have to start somebody that just threw 3 interceptions because his backup does that on the regular.

[–] butterfaerts@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

My favorite was when he said (and later doubled down) that Lucas Patrick had more experience at center, despite Hoge and Jahns bringing up Whitehair has 3x as many NFL snaps at center

[–] nsanta91@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The way fans and writers are acting like a video of him throwing the ball means he’s cleared is ridiculous.

Yes, Eberflus is an idiot. No argument here.

That doesn’t mean they are sitting Justin out so he can’t play against a shit defense and have a good game. The people saying sabotage are just crazy

[–] stwp86@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Does he think he is super sneaky and is going to start fields and trick the panthers, or is he just stupid. Likely just stupid and I cannot wait for the entire staff to go the way of the bad Bears coaches of seasons past.

[–] thecasualcaribou@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Or smart by giving every possible update to throw off Panthers game plan. Maybe not though

[–] Back_Equivalent@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The worst evaluator of talent the bears have ever had as well as the worst I’ve ever seen at talking to the press. It’s like you can feel the imposter syndrome permeating through the microphone.

[–] bblemler@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Flus has the conversational skill of a floating turd with corn in it.

[–] Headwallrepeat@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Sounds like he is going overboard with the gamesmanship so Carolina has to spend time planning for Fields in case he plays.

[–] OkBoomer6919@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Gotta trick the worst team in the entire league because Bears could lose to them and take the title?

[–] abf392@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think he’s just an insanely bad coach

[–] dreadpiratew@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] tigerbomb88@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Coaches only act like this when tanking. Idk why any of the beat reporters don’t just ask Poles about it. It’s a legitimate strategy for a rebuild.

[–] MofosnotReal@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I just listened to his answers and he’s a fucking moron.

[–] Losdangles24@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

After reading what Roquan Smith said I really hope Chicago just lets Justin Fields out of the prison they've kept him in.

[–] RemingtonSnatch@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He is a bad coach but he just doesn't want to say whether or not Fields is playing. It's weird to me that everyone is freaking out about it. The Chicago sports media has a weird sense of entitlement.

[–] OkBoomer6919@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Belichick gets away with it because he's competent at every other part of his job and has won a bunch of championships. Eberflus has not, so he gets zero leeway.

[–] Busy-Ad2297@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] OkBoomer6919@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I just want a competent coach for once. Why is that too much to ask for? Why do we have to spend even a second defending monumental fuckups like Eberflus?

[–] TheeBattousai@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Maybe hes worried that the panther will beat him. So he will wait till last minute to tell the media that he is playing that way the opps. defense doesnt have enough time to gameplan ? counter logic maybe ?
