Feels like Bagent was playing very tight this game and focused on not throwing interceptions instead of making plays. Same thing we see with Fields by the way. The conservative approach helped us win this game, but makes you wonder if Eberflus is coaching his QBs to be too tight.
Chicago Bears
Half these comments are about “really liking bagent”? Wtf am I reading.
When you win, people like you. It's pretty easy.
No picks, no sacks, no fumbles, moved the chains...what else do you want?
Career record as starter when scoring 17 or less points:
Tyson Bagent: 1-2
Justin Fields: 0-12
While we temporarily helped them, I fear we may have hurt our chances in the long term of the first pick. We’re definitely so bad it’s gonna get Reich fired. Hopefully his temp replacement isn’t competent either.
Was at the game, home now rewatching the replay on Prime. I’m noticing the video feed is super over saturated and washed out. The Orange unis look terrible. Was the love broadcast this bad? Or is there something funky with the replay? Or is it just me?
I feel like everything on my Xbox looks over saturated since the last update
Let’s get some hopium going.
10 days to prepare for the Lions.
D is back fully healthy with an actual pass rusher (minus Edmunds, although Sanborn has been locked in), Fields returns, Herbert returns. Let’s see what happens.
The next 4 games will tell a lot about the future of this team and 2024.
Lions Vikings Lions Browns
You beat the lions and you have the Vikings without Cousins and all of a sudden 5-7 is in the realm of possibility.
We finish the year with:
Cardinals Falcons Packers
3 winnable games.
2-2 over the next 4 games probably has you on the outside looking in, 3-1 and all of a sudden we’re in business.
Lions next week is a pivotal moment for Fields future with the Bears
Holy Shit!
Can't believe we came thisss close to losing to the Panthers lol.
It was like watching a slap fight between two kids on the debate team. Brutal.
My assessment of Bagent: You do what it takes to win. Today, like the Raiders game, it took safe throws, managing a lead and not turning the ball over. He was certainly capable of doing that and came through for the win. When it requires a big arm to win a game I don’t trust that he’d be the guy. But for a backup QB, that’s fine.
I can't believe our DII QB outplayed Bryce Young. I thought our offense was badly designed. The Panthers are still acting like they're a passing team. Yes, Bryce Young needs help. But as a number one pick, you've got to elevate the players on your team. I feel like he doesn't do that. I feel like he knows the game very well and had tremendous success at Alabama, but those expecting him to be Drew Brees or Russell Wilson in his prime are going to be in for a big surprise.
We accidentally won!
These comments have been pretty ugly. I was at the game (not that this gives my opinion more weight, just reporting).
Every time Bagent went back to pass, there was a collective nervousness in the air. You could just feel it. Everyone was aware. He drops back and I think it just makes you scared, at this point at least.
He's a good story but has a ways to go. Some of you are over the top critical and mean, that being said.
It's the most Bears fan thing ever to win a game and come on here and just say absolutely meatball hateful things about a player because he kinda made you upset for a second. Grow up.
Are you kidding me? People say Bagent isn't good enough to compete for starter and it's too mean? Meanwhile every third comment in every thread on this board is some troll shitting on Fields despite him not playing for 4 weeks and having two great games before he went down.
This is starting to feel like Trubisky all over again. This weird "He's a nice guy" (something no one actually knows) attitude a group of posters decides on and then vehemently defends. Weird how Fields doesn't get the same.......
I don't care who plays, I want them to win. Let's not pretend that Fields hasn't shat the bed many, many times during crucial game moments. Sacks, fumbles, missed opportunities. Fields seems to do well when it is easy to do well, but I don't remember him making a critical 3rd down throw like Bagent did to win the game.
This isn't saying he can't, couldn't, or wont, but he hasn't shown that yet.
Haven't Bears fans collectively held their breath every time any Bears QB dropped back to pass?
Missed the game. Our the Chicago bears back?
Look we’re 3-7. We beat arguable the worst team in the NFL by the skin of our teeth. Let’s just stop over analyzing and enjoy a win.
Any win on a Thursday game is a good win.
So is Fields gonna play tonight?
Yes
To think there were people on here after Bagent’s first start vouching for his arm strength. After 4 games, it’s clear he has the worst arm in the league. Solid career backup.
I think that the Panthers may have been the only team in the league that we could have beat last night. Quite the accomplishment. Seriously, the whole thing was uninspired. Flus, it looks like he is strung out. I understand that losing takes its toll, but he really seems to be losing his composure, and it's taking a physical toll on him. I almost wonder if he wants to be doing this job anymore.
Did anyone see when Bagent hit his head off the ground just before halftime? Same thing happened to foreman early in the game
Roschon Johnson just ain't that good. Does not pass the eye test.
They actually keep track of what the players do during the game so you don’t have to rely on your eyes
The only positive other than a win last night is that we’ve definitely found our QB2 and a gameplan to give us a chance to win with him. But if he ever has to start for an extended period of time, we’re screwed.
I agree. I think it's awesome to have found our QB2 for the next 3 years or so from a UDFA. We've been fucking around with backup QBs for such a long time now. Locking that down and having it be super cheap is a win. There is also a lot of room for him to grow. The step up in competition from Shepperd to the NFL is massive. But the step up in coaching and weight training should also be massive. He stepped on the field, having not received the bulk of the primary backup reps in OTAs or camp, not even knowing if he would be on the team until late in camp, and not even being the primary backup week 1. And then he had to play two prime-time games, one of which was completely across the country in LA. Just the difference in the stadiums he had to play in. Imagine the difference from Division II stadiums to SoFi. And then the Superdome is one of the loudest stadiums. They said on the broadcast that he had never even had to do a silent count before. All that coupled with Getsy being horrible, a center that can't even get him the ball correctly half the time, recievers that he has got hardly any reps with and playing against a couple decent defenses. Bagent has done extremely well given the circumstances. Fans should be raising this kid up, not as a starter, but just as a really awesome story and someone who is going to play a valuable role on this team for at least his rookie contract and maybe longer. That money that the Bears aren't pissing away on a Brian Hoyer or a PJ Walker can maybe be used to pay for a Center THAT CAN ACTUALLY SNAP THE FUCKING BALL CORRECTLY. Bagent may not ever be a special player for us but in a way he is filling a special role and it's ok to accept what he is right now, and to be intrigued by what he could grow into with more time at this level.
I don't get the snap problems. How is it not getting better? Can't it be corrected? I get it's a specialized skill but wtf?
he started 4 games and we’ve gone 2-2. He’s shown we’re not screwed if he has to play for an extended period
I like Bagent and am glad he’s 2-2. I know he’s not the greatest but man I wish the kid would become something great. Hopefully JF1 comes back and they can string a few wins but Eberlose HAS to go.
Can we stop acting like Bagent is better than Justin? And will our management finally open our eyes to how awful our coaching staff is?
If Getsy isn't gone next year then there is zero reason to even consider a new QB when both of our QBs show the same issues.
I saw at least three Bagent passes that should have been picked off. He'll get better but he'll never be more than a backup. Fields will also get better (with better coaching) and can be a dynamic if imperfect starter.
Given all the bullshit that’s happened with the Sox, and knowing how bad Bears ownership is, I’ve almost just accepted that Eberflus is going to be back next year. Getsy on the other hand? That has to be the easiest decision of all time
I hope to God that you’re wrong.
Me too man, me too
Woof. I hope you’re wrong.
