The simpler/easier the method is the better, I don't need any fancy features, I just want to be able to view the video files I have stored on a specific folder whether it's on my macbook or pc.

Movies app or iTunes on PC if the files are MP4. VLC if something else.

Plex or Jellyfin server. Optionally Infuse as front end.

MacBook has the TV App. Load your movies and tv shows into it and run the Computers App on the ATV to watch them even without the TV App being active

Both MacBook and ATV must be on same WiFi
