A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
- Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
- When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
- More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else

- All posts must be showerthoughts
- The entire showerthought must be in the title
- No politics
- If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.
Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

I saw something nasty in the woodshed.
I nearly constantly have music going in my head if I'm not listening to something. Not necessarily real songs, either. Listening to music is better.
The trick is to write those "not real" songs down, now they're real songs! And you're the composer!
I find playing the song i have stuck in my head to completion gets rid of the earworm. If i played another song i’d just have two earworms.
Fun fact, at least for me, if you don't know the end of the earworm, make up a dramatic finale that ends it.
My brain is dumb. It likes to only repeat parts of songs so even if i made up an ending it'd still just go back to the part i was stuck on. It's why i can't do the second song thing because then i'd end up having some weird remixes going on.
It works for that! Make up the most ridiculous, dramatic, crazy showtune style ending. Really ham it up. If that doesn't work I'll accept your surrender.

The music I like I love having go through my head.
I need it to have my brain entertained with something positive. Otherwise, as with sensory deprivation it will entertain itself with mostly negative train of thoughts, strongly supported by our zeitgeist.
The best way to get that music out of your head is to let this music start playing in your head.
I opened it muted (just to see what the title was) but still heard the music the instant it opened.
When my favorite bands drop new songs, I’ll exclusively listen to those new songs on repeat for days

I have musical tinnitus - my entire life had symphonic and electronic soundscapes. I thought it was normal - I’ve actively listened to all types of music for about 45 yrs.
Sometime in my early forties I mentioned it to my mate’s new girlfriend. She laughed and directed me to an article about it.
Musical tinnitus 11/10 highly recommend. Normal tinnitus 0/10 avoid at all costs.

You have my complete sympathy. It’s a torture I couldn’t even begin to imagine.
My mechanic neighbour suffers from it, he plays a lot of white (?) noise YouTube videos when he has to concentrate - they work for him; a bit.
I use bone conducted headphone for music, and trying not to fixate on the tinnitus helps a lot.

I don't believe people enjoy music so much that it loops in their heads. For most it's background noise that stops once the music stops.
You've never heard of an "ear worm?"
I've done some lazy-style toddler sitting (in my defense, it was the heat!) and might have accidentally overdosed on Disney songs and The Sound of Music. Now trying to delete it with an 80s New Wave and Alternative playlist. And if that doesn't help I'll have to nuke it with 90s eurodance, but that would be grim.
It's the tune wedgie train.
I enjoy acoustic accompaniment for the emotions which drive me.
