The only scenario I see is Braxton and Fields finish the season at All-Pro levels and we win the Superbowl and use the draft pick on Marvin Harrison Jr.
Chicago Bears
Braxton would become the swing tackle…
I don't see the bears taking a tackle in the 1st rd. Too many other glaring holes and you said yourself, Jones has been solid
The issue is, if they stay in the 5-7 range there’s a good chance a LT is the best player on the board. We’re probably looking at dash, alt, or bowers
Personally I can’t resist setting us up for the next 5-10 years with two stud tackles.
There is a realistic shot if we take a LT there, that we have a top three offensive line in the league next year. LT, Jenkins, FA C, Davis, wright. That is a potentially horrifyingly good Offensive line.
I would definitely rather got LT than bowers.
And the issue here is, if you’re passing based on need, you’ve basically GOT to go defensive line, as that is the only hole on the team worth a top 10 pick. And right now it’s not looking like a great year for DL. The talent is gonna be at LT or WR most likely
The problem is these guys are not a lock and Braxton is playing well.
If the tackles are THAT good then someone will pay to move up and get one. Then a trade might net us a mid 1st where BPA is edge or WR, and a mid 2nd for a good C.
I remember when Neal, Cross and Ekwonu were all hyped up draft prospects. Jones has been better than all of them, I'd use the pick somewhere else

Braxton Jones sucks. He is severely overrated by Bears fans
-
Maybe? All depends on how they feel about Fields
Any player who wears a bears uniform automatically gets a boost lol if they have a good game or 2, or PFF grades them high, look out cuz we’ve got an steal of the draft from king poles on our hands
Kick him inside to guard or have him be a reliable swing tackle.
I assume in the scenario we do draft a LT prospect, Jones slides in. Run LT-Jones-C-Jenkins-Wright as the line.
What if: at 5 (Current spot) if MHJ is not available nor DE. Take Olu or Joe or trade back.
Reality: Wait 7 Weeks see final draft spots and how the team plays.
Reality: Wait 7 Weeks see final draft spots and how the team plays.
This is where I'm at. I'll be all for 4 months of draft speculation after we actually know what we have.
Wait until after FA period and see what we still need
Ideally you go into the draft without a glaring need - Poles has seemingly gone BPA except for Wright
It’s so sad that this is a hot take
If the season were to end today, draft needs would likely be a QB > DE >WR > C > then tackle. I doubt Braxton Jones has to compete at all next season.
We are way too early for this conversation. But you can never have too many trench players.
Ideally, both Poles and Flus will be gone, and the new GM won’t have any emotional attachment keeping them from taking the best LT prospect since Tunsil just because we already have a mid LT.
Best player available!
I think Braxton is too good to be a swing tackle. If we could get a good return for Braxton in a trade, I'd be OK with picking one of the prospects, though.
I’m encouraged by Nraxton, but not yet sold on him. I know he’s a PFF darling but he gets flagged for a lot of penalties. Maybe now that Sweat is on OUR team he won’t give up too many more sacks and pressures?
Seriously, he’s gotten better in pass protection but I’ve seen him fail the test enough times in the past that he needs to sustain it before I’m convinced we’re best off passing on Olu or Alt.
If Jones is too good to be a swing tackle, wouldn't it make more sense to flip the pick that would become a tackle rather than Braxton? The return would be way higher and there's no guarantee the replacement LT ends up the better player.
It’s QB > WR > DE > DT this draft. Don’t see us talking a OT.
Safety is number 5
We have Billings and two promising picks at DT. I wouldn’t say it’s a need at all, other than depth.
Braxton Jones would be wasted as a swing tackle. He currently has the 7th best pass blocking grade among all left tackles in the NFL and pass blocking is what they make their living doing. He either starts or he is trade bait. Teams don't really trade away good left tackles.
If we do I’ll fucking kill myself. MHJ or nothing.
We’re not getting MHJ. Patriots and Giants are also bottom 3 and could very easily take MHJ. We’re not getting a QB and MHJ and as great as MHJ would be we need a QB to throw to him.
Then I will kill myself.
The FO likely has a process for this (we hope, right?) WRT player selection. Part of that "formula" should be considering not only the best player available but also the needs of the team. Additionally, there should be an evaluation of the best player available against the estimated gain over the current player at that position. That is to say, do they project a large improvement by an LT over Braxton?
Then, they have to bring it all together somehow. Is the benefit of the LT over Braxton greater than the benefit of drafting the best player at another position over the current player while also not reaching on either of those players for the draft value it costs?
I think there are terms for these things, but I forget them.
They probably have MHJ and Newton as higher priority
Jones will make a solid swing tackle that can rotate in or spot start during injuries
I can't see them using a first on a tacke. If Poles decides we don't need or we can't get MHJ or Caleb, I bet he trades out.
Cream rises to the top jones can go to the bench
He becomes a backup. NEXT QUESTION
Won’t draft a offensive tackle early in the draft. Jones and Wright will be starters for some time. All set with the bookends.
I like Braxton Jones but what im not seeing people talk about is he has been terrible with penalties. Too many holdings and false starts, if he can clean that up, he should keep the role.
Jones becomes an above average swing tackle. Borom is cut. The world continues to spin despite the Bears developing depth on the Oline.
It’s amazing to me that people still don’t see how good Jones is. The knock on him was level of competition. He’s clearly not overmatched in the pro game. Dude’s crazy long, agile, and has great hands. Will only get stronger. We don’t need another cornerstone tackle. We have two.
Can he snap a football?
I feel like center is the biggest need on our o line along with some better depth. I doubt they use a first to address it though.
If we don’t get Marvin Harrison Jr. We need to keep tanking and in 20 years grab Marvin Harrison the 3rd.
BPA. If that means taking MHJ with the first pick I'm ok with that.
If Poles is still the GM, there’s a zero percent chance. There’s no way he sends his 5th round gem to the bench. That’s one of his best draft picks and he can hang his hat on it.
Our roster is okay all around outside of QB and C. Not alot to be excited about, but I'd be okay with all our other positions if we went into next season with our current healthy starter.
What we need is stars, and there's not a position I don't think we couldn't stand to upgrade. We should take the best player available no matter what.
If we draft a tackle, maybe Jones, Wright, or the rookie can swing inside. Maybe we trade one.
Holes everywhere on the roster... Nahhh, let's have 3 starting tackles when only 2 can be on the field instead. That's great team building.
We really need more linemen for depth because we've seen what happens when we put a backup in there (Borom). A new Center is essential. Hopefully that can be handled in FA but admittedly I don't know who's likely to be available. I do think that Poles can find those depth pieces in the later rounds. We should use the top picks for playmakers IMO.
I like Braxton going forward. For a 5th round guy (if I'm not mistaken) he's been a home run.
It is nearly impossible to have too much quality depth on the O Line.
Mama? Why don’t we draft a superbowl instead?
simple jack noises
DE or MHJ with the 2nd first
