Last I checked Apple does $700 for a screen repair, if you're not under Apple Care and can't join in the first 30 days/90 days?, then it's nearly half the price of the laptop to repair.

What a fantastic argument against buying a macbook

[–] AdStill1707@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If you don't have apple care, be prepared to roll more dice so you can make more money to afford the repair.

Ard 400 cad without apple care

[–] compaqdeskpro@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It doesn't look damaged to me, see if Apple will fix it under warranty and keep the hookers and blackjack to yourself.

Clarification: this is a great idea. Don’t tell them it got hit by dice… say it just happened and it may fall under warranty. In all honesty, dice shouldn’t cause this to happen anyways.

Did you buy it directly from Apple?

[–] Armadillo9005@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

A bit off topic here, but if OP doesn’t have Apple Care, is it better to get it fixed at a reputable third party repair store? I assume it’d be cheaper than Apple.

[–] AutonomousHusky@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Cheaper isn't always better. In fact, in this field of repairs, cheaper is NEVER better.

[–] DoOmXx_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

buy apple care and replace it for "cheap"

[–] ballislifeszl@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

With apple care, it is about 300bucks, but it may double if w/o ac

[–] 300zxTTFairlady@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Looks like the screen is split M2.

[–] Meddlemaker79@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

How the hell did you hit your screen with dice? And I'm kind of surprised that caused this damage.

[–] Just-Some-Reddit-Guy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Doesn’t look like there are obvious signs of physical damage.

I’d take it to Apple, play dumb, don’t mention the dice and see if they’ll warranty repair it.

[–] Ragnorocket-99@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Should still be under limited warranty. Mine was when I exchanged it and I bought like a month after release.

[–] blaqbourdain@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Had the same issue. Didn’t have AppleCare. $700 my guy.

[–] samayg@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What are you guys all doing with dice around your laptops?

[–] Xcissors280@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

why do Mac screens break this way constantly, like it’s not even cracked just lines and bars?

[–] RamesesThe2nd@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

OLED screens are not as strong as old LCD screens. I had a crappy Dell PC a while ago and all the bezel broke and cracked around screen because it was made of the cheapest quality plastic, but the screen still worked.

[–] RamesesThe2nd@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I thought it was OLED. Now I cannot explain why it breaks so easily.

Apple's middle finger

[–] jjboy91@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

How much would it cost with apple care ?

[–] No-Collar-8972@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Hard to see but I don’t see a point of impact.

As a former genius, I would cover that. That line doesn’t travel to a point of impact. Just don’t mention anything about the dice lol. Just say you opened your laptop and saw the line on the screen.

Source: previous Mac genius and sent computers to depot where these type of screens would get covered.

[–] RealTechnicalSci@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You said this is less than 30 days old? Go to the Apple Store and tell them it appeared after a bit of use. No damage. Try to get the warranty to apply.

[–] abhay702@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

they'll charge the half price of a laptop so give it to a poor (like me) and buy another one instead of repair

[–] 5starkarma@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I just had this same issue on my MacBook m2 (dog bit the edge of the screen) $550 after everything. Make sure to backup your data because Apple will wipe it on a screen replacement.

"Quick, pull the camera cover off; I'll tell them I hit the screen with dice!"
