hey all, just a little curious since it seems like there's always talk about 'the bears have never had a franchise qb' and determining if Justin is the guy or not. Can someone do me a favor and define what a franchise QB is to me?

It feels to me like some people expect your franchise guy to be either top 10 or maybe even top 5.... But only so many teams can have guys that good, the others have to make due with what they got.

For me - I feel like a fair definition is if a QB is worth extending. Thinking of it this way, there's probably only 15 franchise guys in the league as well.

What do you think?

[–] Silly-Payment7864@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

At one point the bears had a 98% chance to win the game. We lost in historical fashion, pretty cool lol

[–] pleasedontbingme@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

O line played pretty decent (aside from Center). I don’t put too much blame on Wright. He’s a rookie that held his own for most of the game and Hutch is just one of the best EDGEs in the league and made a play.

[–] Bigloubaby@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Has Eberflus been fired yet?

[–] e39@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If the season were to end today, the Bears (3 wins) are drafting 4th overall. The Rams (4 wins) would draft 13th.

Although I hate losing, winning will set us back at this point.

We know the issues by now. There’s nothing left to figure out.

Anyone who thinks we need to move on from Justin after that game is delusional

[–] greenline_chi@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

With all of the other things we need to do I just cannot understand why people are so set on “train a rookie quarterback” to the list when we already have a playmaker who is making plays even on this talent suck of a team

[–] Practical-Courage812@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This loss solidified Flus position as the worst coach in the league. Mostly because the other bad coaches have better records than him (minus Reich). Staley, Reich, and Rivera are probably the only other coaches guaranteed to be done after this year, and maybe Reich is the only one who i would say is definitely worse (and he almost beat the Bears last week!) It is going to be hard to judge any of our players for the rest of the year when this dipshit of a coaching staff continues to scheme the way they do. I have seen enough to know there is no way in hell Flus and company should be back next year.

The opening game scripts for the offense under Getsy have actually been fairly decent, but just like with the defense, it seems once we get to halftime, we get completely outcoached.

His play calls and lack of situational football knowledge are devastating. Even go back to week 1. We held our own for the first half, then the Packers adjusted, and then Getsy just filled his pants and didn’t know how to adjust to the adjustment.

This sub will be in total shambles if fields gets outplayed by Dobbs (likely). I’m sorry but he just is not the guy. Great guy, but not THE guy.

We need exceptional QB play in order to keep him, not just good QB play. 10th failed game winning drive opportunity in a row.

[–] Eddie-Lacy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Lol @ the recency bias of this fan base. Time and time again Fields has shown us he isn’t the guy but if he plays one good (mediocre) game he’s now the guy.

Why don’t we see Patriots fans say Mac’s the guy when he has one good game? Why are we the only fan base who is willing to go through this time and time again?

I’m so sick of everyone blaming the coaches. Yes, they are HORRIBLE, but what has Justin shown except the occasional beautiful deep ball or his running ability? Name a singular clutch instance he’s had, bc if you cant accept the fact he’s a consistent part of our choke jobs then you just can’t see clearly and I think you’ve fallen in love with the personality and are mistaking it for the player. JF1, great guy, not a good quarterback.

If he plays bad next week you’ll all be back on the Caleb Williams train.

[–] Jorikstead@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This team is a lot closer than people think, but I’m preparing to give up on this team if they stick with Justin Fields for another year

[–] IMKudaimi123@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Next gen stats said on 3 of the 4 field goals the Bears should’ve gone for it

Typical eberflus

[–] xtow16@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

On the 2nd to last drive you gotta run the ball with Fields instead of Herbert. Fields is great when he runs. Letting him drop back to throw is going to end in disaster as we've seen time and time again. He fumbles the ball, throws picks and makes bad decisions when he's forced into situations where running is off the table (going for a 50 yard bomb on 3rd & 9 when just a first down probably wins the game ???)

We didn't lose because of Fields yesterday, but a franchise QB elevates your team to win that game

[–] langlis@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This one is on the coaches. The final 5 min. Beating the lions you needed to stay in attack mode. They went conservative and it cost them.

[–] NineModPowerTrip@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

25 runs and 10 passes in the seconds half Vs the 3rd best run defense in the league ? 3 of those passes ended In JF1 scrambles so in total 28 runs and 7 passes In the second half. This staff has no idea how to coach with a lead and go into 4 minute offense as soon as they get the lead. FUCK THE COVER 2 DEFENSE. I will dance a happy dance when we get rid of this Clown show coaching staff, the DRIZZILING SHITS PRINCIPALS and defensive scheme they brought with them just like I did when they fired Lovie.

[–] willit1016@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Its men's mental health month and this isn't good for the cause. UGH!

[–] rustysurf83@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I’m I just re-watched the strip sack play that ended it and…I can’t believe Getsy still has a job this morning. There’s so many things wrong with that particular play call and design in that scenario.

[–] TomSan23@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Moving the pocket worked too well on the first drive, so they never did it again.

[–] qazxderfv@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think it’s a good idea to mentally prepare for no one getting fired and Fields to show enough flashes to keep the spirit breaking disappointment forever

[–] InvaderWeezle@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Me before the game: Even if we lose I'll be happy if we hold our own against the Lions and lose close.

Me after we hold our own against the Lions and lose close: Well that was bullshit

But like actually though. This roster is capable of way more than 3-8 and this game convinced me of it. Coaches gotta go

[–] RollofDuctTape@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Why not fire Eberflus today?

[–] sgtmattkind@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because Virginia and Co are a group of greedy clowns

[–] rustysurf83@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because the McCaskeys are too cheap to pay 2 head coaches at once despite running a franchise valued over $6 billion. They haven’t ever fired a coach mid season.

People always say that the players on the field are not trying to lose games, but - and this is probably going to be a bit of a controversial thing to say - I think this group is as complicit in the losing as the coaching staff and front office. Not simply from the perspective of lacking overall talent on the roster, but because they have not done anything to indicate that they have a problem with playing this poorly.

Jerry Reinsdorf, an equally cheap and stupid franchise owner, had the good sense to fire Jim Boylen when there was a mutiny on his hands. The Raiders just went through this with Josh McDaniels - Mark Davis, a guy who is has been at various times been reportedly cash-poor - is shelling out EIGHTY MILLION DOLLARS to McDaniels and Ziegler to stay the fuck away from his team after it became clear that McDaniels had completely lost the locker room.

Has that negatively impacted anyone's career? Did Zach LaVine lose any money because he correctly identified that Jim Boylen wasn't an NBA level head coach? Do we think any less of Maxx Crosby, Davante Adams, Josh Jacobs, or Antonio Pierce - leaders of a team who literally led an airing of grievances before McDaniels got canned? No!

So, why the fuck haven't the Bears had a players-only meeting? Why are Justin Fields and DJ Moore walking back comments about the coaching staff underutilizing them or not playing to their strengths? Why is the entire team ducking the plain-as-day issue that their coaches are literally the worst at their jobs in the league - the worst at their jobs in the HISTORY OF THIS FRANCHISE? Why are they keeping their heads down?

The only explanation I can come up with is that they don't care. And that seems to make sense to me - it's losers the whole way down. George McCaskey doesn't care about winning, Ryan Poles doesn't care about winning, Matt Eberflus certainly doesn't care about winning, and frankly, neither do Justin Fields or the rest of the roster, it seems. Just a collection of gormless losers who are milling around, doing nothing to improve, while the rest of the league - at best! - ignores them, while their rivals laugh their asses off.

Is everlose fired yet?

[–] Critical-Adhole@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Bring on Caleb Williams

[–] OpneFall@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Does anyone know why Fields Passer Rating and QBR are so far apart?

The only other QBs that have such a gap are Russell Wilson, Tommy Devito, and Adian O'Connell (assuming some kind of sample size issue on the latter)

[–] DetectiveNasty55@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No coaches for any team are getting fired the week of Thanksgiving. It’s a bad look for any organization.

[–] Jake-Old-Trail-88@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The defense played well until they gave up a ton of points at the end of the fourth quarter. Our offense settled for too many FGs. We didn’t score enough off of turnovers. Really disappointing considering we blew another winnable game.

I thought fields played a really good game against a strong team in a very hostile environment; We still need a strong #1 receiver and a center that doesn't get injured every game;

I think the def showed flashed of whats to come; though Goff had a really really bad game;

If i had to draft, first pick would still be edge; 2nd pick would be WR, 3rd pick center.

[–] artevandelay55@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It's not often one single player at a non-major position singlehandedly fucks the entire game. But Jaylon Johnson sure as shit managed to fuck us hard yesterday. Dropped a pick 6. PI for like 40 yards. Didn't catch another pick. Blown coverage at the end of the game for a TD. I mean dude must've went to the Velus Jones Jr school of fucking your teammates

[–] MiddleNameIsJoe@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think my biggest takeaway from this game is it shows how flawed poles' vision for the roster is.

In the modern NFL, run defense and run offense barely matter. You have to be able to execute and stop two-minute drills. We can do neither and we aren't building toward being able to do either.

[–] Brown_Sandals@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Honestly, if the end goal of this season is to try to end up with two very high draft picks (one of which will hopefully be #1), wouldn’t firing Eberflus and co be a bad decision?

Let them continue running their clown show shit for several more weeks and get rid of them at the end of the year.
