Dolly belongs on the $100.

And while we're at it, put Harriet Tubman on the $20. And maybe John Brown on the $10.

[–] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 13 points 1 week ago

I endorse this completely

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 week ago

Personally, I'd prefer Dolly was on the $1 bill, so that the kids she helped learn to read would see her on their allowances/lunch money/birthday cards/what-have-ya 🥰

[–] NeatNit@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

$1 is actually more respectable. There's a lot more of it, it's used and seen more often.

Best choice for Dolly. Get her pervasive in the collective consciousness, and hope that familiarity more strongly endears her genuinely charitable efforts to said populace —maybe even making the world a kinder place, one dollar at a time. 🥰🌞🌱

wait wait. hold on. i want john brown (specifically that one of him with his cool beard) as the watermark on all of them. in different poses so if you had all the denominations it's like a little flipbook. so one might say the soul of john brown is marching on in our money.

let's put Hound Dog Taylor on the 10 and put a little chip in it that plays music when you open it.

dolly should play 9 to 5. opening your wallet should be annoying as hell.

We can't forget Betty White. I would collect Betty Bills

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ironically enough, I've always had the toughest time spending $2 bills at shops/restaurants because the staff don't believe they're real. 🫣

I vote for Ronald McDonald. Perfect emblem for a clown shoes government and a currency based on systemic fraud.

I want her death to be the unexpected event that ignites the American ppl to defend themselves.

i want tuesday to be that day. i'll take the death of one of our goddesses. our lady of children's literature.

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Next Tuesday? Why not this Saturday?

Though, "Tyr's Day" would be more apropos, NGL.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Tyr's Day is my rehearsal day though. i'm booked already. if someone fucks with my rehearsal days the dogs of war will really be let loose and i'm talking about my feet they stink

They sound more like hounds of gwar.

The new bills are made so that they don't tear easily, FWIW.

[–] dylanmorgan@slrpnk.net 6 points 1 week ago

Dolly Parton never owned slaves. Just sayin.

[–] YoiksAndAway@piefed.zip 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I could see a stamp happening in the near future. Elvis got one for much less.

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (2 children)

For a moment I could only think of the inked kind of stamps and thought, "Wait, people stamp pictures onto money? And they did that with Elvis? I've never seen Elvis on a dollar, how have I missed that?"

Then I remembered postage stamps exist.

Regardless, I'm still down for stamping a picture of Dolly onto bills.

[–] YoiksAndAway@piefed.zip 2 points 1 week ago

LOL! Although I believe a postage stamp would be an appropriate and deserved homage to the great Dolly Parton, I would also be down for stamping Dolly Bucks.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Elvis got more than just a stamp. he got an entire art movement. I'm writing a song/ballad (or rather trying, but I'm distracted with four other projects so if'n you want to help/write a competing song, reach out) about velvet elvises (because one of the most beautiful phrases in the english language is "velvet elvis". fuck you, cellar door. oooh, i should use that as a lyric.)

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Don't forget to rhyme "orange" like Mathers taught us.

[–] tektite@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)
